My Kibler Colonial Rifle is coming albeit at a much slower pace than I wanted. This is my first rifle so between going slow and learning, and life getting in the way, and wishing I knew how to carve, progress has been slow. I have learned so much in the process. I used the Kibler iron nitrate on the stock and now have just applied the second coat of tried and true thinned out with a little turpentine. I am extremely happy with how it is turning out. I still have to treat the barrel and decide if I want to age the brass at all. Don't mind the amateur carving, this was my first attempt.

Looks Great , I'm still waiting on mine , I ordered it in December, It will be my first build also
I hope it comes soon! It has been a lot of fun and a learning process all the way. Every time I started a new task I was always worried of screwing it up. Putting a chisel to the wood was tough. I never done it before so I did a ton of practice. Some worked out and some didn't but in the end I am happy. Hopefully my skills will improve by the time I dod the next one.
Good luck and remember this forum is a great resource.

Pardon me, but I don't think you did a bad job at all on your first carving.

I like the accent lines, what tool and or method are you using ? I’m building a flintlock myself. I’m at the point that I’m starting to think about trying something like what you have done. You did a good job.

I used a checkering repair tool to created the line. It took a few passes to get it as deep as I wanted. After a few passes I tipped it to one side then the other on the next pass to widen it a bit. There is probably a better way but I was working with what I had and my lack of real experience. I bought a piece of maple to practice on. I did a bunch of lines on it to get the feel before I put the tool on my gun. Good luck with yours, it is a lot of nervous fun.
