Thanks PNC! Yea now some fun begins. My mentor will be teaching me how to carve a shell behind the bbl tang and possibly beaver tails behind the lock and side plate.
I like the detailing part of it also

It looks like the stock only covers the bottom 1/3 of the barrel. Is that correct?

I was able to handle an original Fowler this last weekend as well as a FDC! It’s amazing how light and well-balanced the Fowler was! It greased my skids even more!!

Sorry I missed your question. No it's probably just the camera angle. It covers about half the barrel. That's the rule of thumb I go by "no more then half the barrel should show".

Well she's finished in the white. I'll carve a shell pattern behind the tang then I can stain the stock and grey the metal. Almost done!

So I have to ask what’s on the cassette tapes to the right of the butt plate in the last pic? Oh the inlettig on the butt to plate looks good to!;-)

Nice work . . . very nice in every area . . . I put a muzzle cap on my PA fowler . . . I like caps and though it didn't come with the kit, the one I saw at Friendship at the NMLRA Jim Chambers booth had a muzzle cap. . .but your ramrod and muzzle look great . . .very fowler-ish.
Will you be doing incise carving behind the tang?

Great work , that is what is called a flaming urn finial not an acorn , you can see them on top of gate posts , all sorts of places etc They come in many variations of shapes and sizes and go back a long way in history .

I'll be getting some help from my friend and teacher on the carving next week so we'll see what he suggests. The original I'm basing this on looks like relief to me. What do you think?
It looks nice. I would be wondering if removing wood to make the carving stand out in bas-relief might slightly flatten the slope of the wrist.
