huma,
once he feels the recoil of a muzzleloader he will be a different person... the 50cal verner is such a special rifle imo... but like i said before im not ready to commit to it yet...
what caliber are you thinking?

ok i cant help myself...
if i were you he he... i would get this kit... http://www.longrifles-pr.com/averner.shtml
Not only is it a beautiful school and looks great mounted on the wall, it comes with a green mountain barrel that ive heard nothing but good things about. make sure you spend the extra scratch on the swamped one... calibers range from .32 to .54... i would probably stick with a B weight barrel for this project but that is just me.
With the very skilled members here on the forum i would not think twice about a kit like this as your first...
the choice is most definitely yours however and im just dreaming out loud oh and super excited for you...

Pay the extra, and get the swamped barrel, you won't regret it. Only thing is you will have to fit the breech plug. Green Mountains are OK, Rice, Colerain, Getz, Rayl, Burton are all better barrels though, but $70 to $80 more. The swamped barrel is correct for this style gun for it's period. Best of luck with it.
