Welcome back everyone! Where has the time gone? It seems like it was just the other day when I hosted my first match, yet here we are on shoot number 7! Time to find out if 7 is lucky or not 😀.

This month's target is a pair of turkeys, with a twist! The left turkey must be shot left handed and the right turkey must be shot right handed! Inspiration for this target comes from Mark Humphries at the BPMS YouTube channel. Thanks Mark!

Download and print your target attached below. Write your forum screen name on the front of your target as soon as you print it!

This is a Six shot target. Fire 3 shots at each turkey! Misses count!

The left turkey is to be shot left handed and the right turkey is to be shot right handed!

The shooting distance for this contest is 25 yards.

No do-over’s. Print and shoot one target only. One rifle and one pistol is acceptable.
Only registered forum members may participate.

If you would like please take a picture of your target and post it on the forum under this months (November) shoot to share with other members.

Only traditional, open iron sighted muzzle loading firearms; peeps are allowed under the condition you mark your target so I know you used a peep. (Tracking it) NO Cannons. Percussion, flintlock or matchlock ignition only. Pistol will be in their own class. Cap and Ball revolvers are OK.

Single patched round ball only. No restrictions on caliber. (a patchless ball may be used if so desired)

Shots shall be taken off-hand at the stated distance. Standing or seated is allowed, elbows unsupported by anything other than the shooters torso. In the event that a member is not physically able to hold his rifle up unsupported, a "prop-rod" that is supported only by the shooters torso, no part of which prop-rod may touch the ground, may be used to hold up the fore-end of the rifle.

Old Eyes - Small Targets, What To Do?
Considering the nature of the event being, a print and mail target and there being no prize other than bragging rights, the object is to encourage shooters to shoot and share their results, whatever they may be, in hopes we can all learn a bit. In September 2020 shoot participants overwhelmingly voted to adjust the rules to allow adding color to the target(s) to add contrast to better see the intended point of impact. This can be done at the individual shooters desire, this is optional.
Note: This may not be necessary with all targets but it has been adopted as a standing rule.

Pistol Class:
For those who would like, you can shoot one target with long gun and one with pistol. Please mark your target accordingly.

How close is close enough? Over half the ball must penetrate inside the scoring ring to be counted at the highest value. In other words, the ring in which the majority of the ball hits the target will be the score value. The center of the shot placement on the target will be determined by the judge. Judges decisions are final.

Fire 6 shots only, misses count! Mutilated targets or targets with more than 6 holes will be disqualified. If you have any questions, suggestions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me.

In trying to be more inclusive I am going to allow targets to be submitted via the postal service or electronically via email for this month's shoot. If I get a positive response I will make this option permanent in the future.

Option 1 (preferred):
Mail your target, postmarked no later than November 30th to:

Chris Duncan
1260 N Osage rd
Mulvane, KS 67110
Attn: November Target

Option 2 (experimental):
Scan or photograph your target and email it no later than 11:59pm November 30th to:

[email protected]

Subject: November Target

As long as I can CLEARLY make the target out I'll accept it. ** Not having the original in hand, If I cannot easily determine which ring the majority of the hole lies within the lower number will be scored**

(I recommend using a dark backing paper when you scan / photograph it if possible so that the holes show clearly)

If you don’t mind sharing I would also like to know what you’re shooting. Include type of firearm, caliber, ball diameter, patch thickness, lube, powder type and grains used, barrel length and twist rate. This isn’t required I’m just the curious sort.

Thanks for shooting, now lets get out there and make smoke!

RanchRoper,

It's really not that bad. After a few practice shots I was taking out pop cans at 25yds with ease. Just had to remember to keep my right eye shut!

Chris

Thanks . I don't feel like trying the rifle right handed . I'm left handed I think I'll have a better chance of actually hitting them. As always thanks for taking the time to run these.

Fainter, I'm just the opposite, rifle left handed I'm sure I'll hit paper, pistol left handed.....that will be good for entertainment......

RanchRoper, been practicing your "ball pushing" skills?

In all seriousness, for anyone submitting via email, please post here or send me a pm so I can make sure to be on the lookout for it.

Chris

Got-er done. I’m glad it forced me shoot left handed. I needed to learn how and I’ll continue to practice lefty.

TC .50 Hawken w/ 32” 1:66 twist Green Mountain barrel. 50 grains OE 2f, .495 self cast ball, .015 patch w/ moose milk.

Like Cherrybow, I had some sight adjustments to monkey with. I think I've got things where I want them now, but shooting left handed was interesting to say the least. With practice, I'm certain I could do better. The right hand turkey was better, but I still need to fine tune things. Anyhoo, here's a photo of my target:

I figured I'd try the postal match this month. The right target was passable but I did end up with two shots to the right. The left target shooting really shows how bad I shoot left handed. I decided to use my Pietta 36 Navy for the left one. I did mange to hit paper one out of the three shots but that's it. I can't even pick my nose with my left hand :). It was fun though. Thanks for running the shoot

I used my Kibler SMR, 45 on the right hand target with 65Grains of Goex 3F, my home cast 440 rb and a 15 thousandths pillow tick spit patch.

On the left hand target I used my Pietta 51 navy, 36 with 20 grns of Goex 3f, a felt wad and a home cast .375 rb,

Glad to see everyone enjoying the southpaw challenge! Brad, received your target via email, thanks for shooting!!

I took my TC Hawken percussion. 45 to the range yesterday. Light rain when I got there turned to sleet blowing sideways by the time I stapled my target. Target got wet and fell apart. I had taken 3 shots but gave up. I will try pistol hopefully this week.
