had my hand in front of the touch hole yup ouch ok
is there any thing i can do or need to know about the embeded powder in my hand? like first aid or stuff like that thanks.

slinger, i carry powder under the skin in one of my fingers from a vented drum. it heals up and you get to have neat black/blue spots on your hide. lots of neosporin to help prevent infection. if in doubt see a doctor.

Well, the first thing you need to know is DON'T do that again. Second is That HURTS. Seriously though, how bad is the burn? If it isn't too bad and is just annoying i wouldn't worry too much about it. Put some burn salve on it and be thankful you learned something without being hurt real bad.

Well I did about the same thing and was afraid of BP tattoos so I dug out all the black spots. I did it by shooting my one SxS flint shotgun. I was having trouble with the left barrel going off, so I held the gun down at the dirt and touched her off so I could see the flint/pan etc. Well, being right handed, this way of holding the gun pointed down, but my forearm in line with the vent. Of course I did this right after checking the sharpness of the flint and I cut my trigger finger as well. I blood everywhere! duh!!!!!

I do not know how he did it, but I used to shoot some cartridge guns with the gun resting on my support hand palm and my fingers curling up to the action side. I did this with a flinter -- once! BP tattooed fingertips, but I washed them off very carefully so they would not be permanent.

If anybody ask, tell them it was bad tattoo.

Being a lefty, I once (only once was enough to learn) got some imbedded from a RH lock in my right arm, took awhile, but eventually degraded and disappeared.

I've done that twice, by holding my left hand too far back, once kneeling and once squirrel hunting and shooting almost vertically. Having a cold creek or a snowdrift is the best first reaction. My doctor called his nurse and P.A. in to look at the first-time boo-boo. They don't see too many powder burns around here, and it was good for a chuckle.

Think of BP's ingredients and it will hurt worse. Lessee... charcoal isn't too bad, but it burns awhile. Saltpeter=OUCH! And sulfur=Agony!!

well kind of embarassing and dumb i had the fowler in the crook of my left arm my hand just in line with the touch hole the squirrel was real close figured shoot from the hip so to say lesson learned

Good thing you wern't shooting a left handed gun from the hip... :winking:

:winking: You were lucky to find a doctor that had enough sense to not call the police and turn it in as a gun shot wound. I saw this happen and it got nasty. so cure it yourself with antibiotic salve and or pick and train your doctor,Going to the emergency room will set off all sorts of people. Bob

In the interest of preventing this for others, how did your hand come to be there when the gun went off?

When I did that to my self, I had the barrel in the crook of my left arm with my hand against a tree, acting as a brace. Yes it hurts :shocked2:, and now you have a conversation starter..."Hey, wanna know how I got these black dots on my hand?". :rotf:

My doctors are used to me bringing weird maladies to them. Like snapping turtle bites dripping blood everywhere. Rusty nail wounds. Two years in a row I got poison ivy in deer season after Thanksgiving. Once I even had a beef tapeworm which was the talk of the doc's office. A powder burn? Pale by comparison.

You remember Tim Taylor from "Tool Time"? I'm not quite to that level, but some years I'm a good understudy.
