In my Thompson Hawken a .18 pillow ticking spit patch gives me excellent accuracy. Trouble is it is a very hard to load! Any idea as to what thickness I can drop down to that will give me good acuracy plus be easier to load? Thanks...

I get great accuracy in my T/C Barrells in 50 cal. Using a .490 ball and 018 ticking patch.
You might want to try 015 thickness patch,it should load easier with reasonable accuracy.
This however,Is just my opinion.

018" pillow ticking gives me the tightest groups in my TC's and I always use them with max/near-max hunting loads.
But I use .015" with light 50grn target loads and they do fine for my weekend range sessions, shooting cans, steel targets, etc...(bought a ton of Oxyoke prelubed .015" realm cheap off an auction a year ago)
However, I use a short starter with both of them.

Looks like I`ll have to make a trip to Wally World and see what they got. Thanks for the tip on using 50 grs. of powder, will have to try it. I have noticed that some shooters use enough powder to shake the ground when they touch off! I try to shoot as light a load as I can get away with. Sure did help with the flinchies!By the way Roundball, there is a Thompson shooter in our Club that I swear, has used the same Flint for at least a year. The poor thing looks like a piece of Road gravel sticking in the jaws but, danged if doesn`t work!!!

i use T/C's pre lubed .015 fer my .490 round ball over 70 grains powder in my T/C hawken.......bob
