I don't regard buying caps per 1K as being a hoarder. Its usually less $ in quantity, just like buying powder by the case.

I say buy them all. I would never worry about being a hoarder when it comes to caps. I grab whatever I can for my musket and cap and ball revolver.

I have something like 700 Winchester Magnum BP #11 caps I bought at walmart last year for $3/100 I'm waiting for them to go on clearance again, then cleaning them out this year as well (they only had maybe 500 on the shelf though). If I have 1500 in stock, I will be set for quite some time. That is a lot of balls, patches and Powder! I don't get to the range much, so it will last.

If all shops put a limit on how much .22lr was bought, wed have supply. I don't need any, I have PLENTY that I stocked up on during times of great supply. But I wish there was .22mag because I want to shoot my NAA Mini. I failed to stock up for that gun! BUT, I do have a .22lr cylinder!

Some nipple are too thin so you squeze the cap to get it to saty on.

availablity here is nuts, I found one store and they wantd $9.00 a box. I ordered a 1000 online.

Hoarding is what has been going on with powder, and caps according to numerous suppliers by the Civil War recreators especially for Gettysburg. I was told by 4 different distributers that they were buying everything they can get there hands on and that's why things have been tough to find, in addition to the government being another cause. I don't feel like me buy 1000 caps which is gone in a year easily is hoarding if I am using them. Now if I have 15,000 on hand then yes it is.

I agree, if you use allot and buy allot, that's not hording. If you buy way more than you use then that's hording. I bought more than I use(about 500) but I don't use allot in a year. I hope to change that though starting this year.

Thanks for the tip. Purchased 1000 #11 Remington caps last evening. I too have been having trouble finding them both at local stores and online. Checked all the big names online such as Cabelas, Dixie, Midway, Midsouth Shooters Supply, Natchez and NONE of them had #11 caps.

Hoarding, should mean that the economy is healthy, if people can afford it. I don't understand why the manufacturers aren't stepping up and making a "mint" while the opportunity is available. "Make hay while the sun's shinning". Might be like the AR's, more of them now than you can shake a stick at. Before it's over, caps will be 3.00, and shelves will be packed.

I'm "pessimesticier" than that, I started stocking up on stuff a bit (caps for sure).

I couldn't find any locally, but I bought some at the Gander Mountain in Sherman, TX when I was down there a couple weeks ago. I also checked the GM in Davenport, IA and they had a good supply of Remington #11s and Winchester #11 Magnums. I haven't scored a local source for real BP though. Graf needs a 4# order, plus $28.50 hazmat fee, plus $7.95 handling charge, so $15.99 cans of powder become $25.10 cans of powder! I don't have a spare $100 lying around at the moment, so Pyrodex is going to have to do. :barf:
