I am wanting to build a Billinghurst type under-hammer target rifle ,possibly two, one for 50 and 100 yards and another (or have additional sights ?) for 1000 yards but I do not have a decent picture or drawing of the correct type of sights to use.

Can anyone assist here please?

Hans Khaki, Greetings, Building a Billinghurst, that's quite an undertaking! If you Google Billinghurst underhammer, you'll find some informative photo's.. Track of the wolf, and a few other Muzzleloading builder suppliers should have what you're looking for, or something that will work. Do you have a barrel builder in mind? What action are you planing on using? I'm having a False Muzzle barrel built, and two other barrels breeched to fit an underhammer action at this time. Good luck with your project.. Mgcrumster

Most and that's most not all have scopes on them. I'll ck out what he used Ive got a hand full of pics and nags not packed up yet. Fred :hatsoff:

Thanks Mgcrumster, I have done a Google search and have found quite few pics but no great drawings or pics which one can work off.

Fred, I do not want to use a scope but rather an aperture type sight as this will be used for “serous” target shooting so I you do have pics that will be a great help.

Regarding the barrel I will be making my own along with a false muzzle, etc. I have a deep hole drill (which I built) along with a sine bar, single hook, type cut rifling machine. I can currently drill and ream 32’ and want to increase this to 63” (it is the same work to go to 40” so I may go the whole hog!). As I am already tooled up for .451 I was thinking of doing it in this with a 1:18 twist but a friend is trying to talk me into doing it in .40.

Perhaps you are interested I will post a series of pics as to its construction and birth in order to get some constructive criticism?

Keep us up with your build. All Ive found is a small tube up front with the very SMALL BALL ON A HAIR aka the porkpin quill thats heated then flattened to get a very smal ball, the back looks like a 1/2 of a big part of a egg but it cant be a 1/4" . A story to go with this I've told before here. I was shooting in the ML 1000 yds shoot out here back in 1989 and a new kid showed up with a good copy of the Billinghurst didnt use scope (you couldnt) and I think he shot a 451 or 45/70 kind of bullet some up to 600 grs make this really short it ws his first time out and he won the overall. :haha: Fred :hatsoff: I'll keep a eye out for a pic or so that might help.
