I wonder if providing a platinum vent and nipple lining service to this community would be needed and viable ?
Is it because of the charge, or relation between caliber and bullet size? A had a Zouave and shot that 460 grain minnie without ever an issue. But I could see a small caliber and heavy bullet, maybe a paper patch, having a lot more pressure and that effecting it.They are still in production today for percussion long range guns. The nipples are lined with platinum to reduce erosion. Otherwise, you get about ten shots with a 500gr bullet, and you'll need a new nipple.
I would be interested in such service.I wonder if providing a platinum vent and nipple lining service to this community would be needed and viable ?
How much is that in US dollars? Also I wonder now platinum lined compares to beryllium copper vents and nipples in erosion resistance ?I just had one made for the bargain price of £40. An absolute necessity for shooting a .451 target rifle.
And platinum is stronger in this case then stainless steel or ampco (?) the brass looking alloy that’s so hardWeight of the bullet. Competition nipples have really small holes. They have to stay small in order to maintain consistent accuracy. Musket nipple holes are huge in comparison.
About $45 at the moment. The exchange rate is currently very favourable to Americans. The cost is also dependant on the price of platinum. How much is that in US dollars?
Precious metal prices are pretty much standard worldwide, are they not? Here in UK we usually have no cheap access to platinum,
How really necessary is that anyway? (Joke here: they're stealing auto catalytic converters; now we have to worry about our muzzleloaders' vents being stolen!)I wonder if providing a platinum vent and nipple lining service to this community would be needed and viable ?
