I was at a historical reenactment in Tucumcari, NM last week. There was about a half a dozen lodges set up. Outside the camp were others doing demonstrations. One of those demonstrations was a local Indian family that was workin wool. They had the whole family strung out for 30 feet, each working the next step. They took raw wool, carded it, and spun it on a bobbin into yarn, then dyed it with plant material, and then the last girl had a loom set up and was weaving straps about 5 foot long and a couple inches wide. They were really nice, she was about 12 years old but, man, she could do it fast and was doing nice patterns. Wish I would have been smart enough to get her name, and have her make up a bunch of those belts, I'd put a new shoulder strap on my bag. The buckskinners were buyin up her straps as fast as she could make them.
