check to see if you have any Bass Pro stores in your area. They sell Goex BP. You'll need to ask the manager if they have it because most of the sales people won't know and will tell you they don't.

As for the Pyrodex, buy a nice cap and ball pistol and use it in that.

...got 5 lbs ordered! Hope i'll be around the house for the signature they require (wife is traveling for few days) since I work long days during the week. But, I am excited to have the real stuff! Thank you all for setting me straight...now what to do with this Pyrodex....

You can still use Pyrodex in your flintlock but you have to do it the way azmntman said:

"I used to use 10 gr black and 60 pyrodex and had no issues at all."

The way you do it is to first put in the 10 grains of real black powder and settle it in the breach. Then add the Pyrodex on top of the real black powder. The real stuff will ignite and then in turn ignite the Pyrodex. Yeah, it is a pain but it is a way to use up the Pyrodex.

I use Graf's. They don't have a minimum order requirement and they are fast/easy to deal with. I agree that it makes sense to buy powder in bulk due to the Hazmat fee, but sometimes you need a certain type or granulation of powder without necessarily needing 25 pounds of it. Or you are just poor like me! I recommend them.

I just bought some at bass pro yesterday 29.98 a pound. They keep it behind the counter. I find it ironic that they don't sell traditional rifles anymore.

The only other source i have around here is the internet and by the time you tack on the hazmat and handling fee it is close to that unless i buy more than 3 pounds. i just dont get that much shooting time. :surrender:

See prices have increased some since I looked last but $17.10lb for Goex (this includes hazmat) in a 25ld lot is still way cheaper from Powder Inc. Let me give anyone who's interested a piece of advice here. The price is never going down and it lasts forever if stored properly. Buy in bulk and either shoot more or have a lifetime supply either option is still cheaper than it's going to get in the future. Just my opinion but in my Polish left handed mind it makes pretty good sense. :thumbsup:

Well, if you come to Canada, expect some sticker shock. i`ve got some cans with$24.00 to $35.00 stickers on them, and its not that easy to find. when i find some i buy it all, and sometimes there is an hour, hour and half drive to get it. i can get it in bulk, but that involves a drive equal to a pilgrimage, and is still expensive. the strong US dollar will help you out here.

I wish I could. I used to love coming to Canada at one time. Now I have to treat it the same as some places here in the states. Avoid like the plague. To many restrictive gun laws will always keep me away. I like carrying my friend on my person everywhere I go and don't go places it's not allowed. Shame we have allowed bureaucrats to screw us law abiding citizens over for so many years now.
I'm thinking the price of black powder is directly related to the same issue. Regulation has drove the price to where it is and will keep driving it up till no one will be able to afford it in the future. Then we will be on forums discussing our heirloom wall decorations. :cursing:

I hate to tell you what I paid for the last powder that I bought at Friendship back in 2010. First, I bought 10 pounds at $8/pound. Then a couple of months later, I bought 40 pounds but by then the price had sored up to a staggering $12/pound. The reason I bought so much powder was that we were moving back to Texas and I knew black powder would not be easily found in Texas as it is at Friendship. Glad I stocked up when I did. :thumbsup:

I have no doubt the prices of powder is going up and it will continue to increase in the future but, some of those high values you mention are due to the difference in value between the Canadian and the US dollar.

Using today's Canadian/US dollar value (.72/1.00) the numbers you give would be $17.28 - $25.20 in US dollars.

I can get my GOEX for $13.00 a pound, plus a nice drive in the country, vs. $26 to $30 over the counter in the People's Republic of Maryland. :shake: ..

I know folks swear by stuff other than the old basic GOEX or their Reenactor Grade powder, BUT..., I buy GOEX because it works just fine, AND it's made in the USA in case our masters in DC suddenly ban importation of black powder into the USA...I want a company inside CONUS that can supply me.

Which reminds me I need to buy some antimony balls, a rock tumbler, and some sulfur and salt peter to store.....

I used to use Goex with perfectly satisfactory results. Placed a bulk order last year and chose to get Olde Eynsford because it is supposed to be made to a higher degree of uniformity than plain Goex and was only a dollar or so more per pound. Works very well for me and I will stick with it. Have never tried the Swiss but the price differential is much higher so I will leave it to better shots than myself. I'm not a good enough shot that I could tell the difference and powder is expensive enough already.
