Powder Question For TC Hawken

Is it safe to use Triple 7 out of a TC Hawken 50 cal.I have used pryodex in the past. I know 777 is cleaner burning.

Yes it is safe. It's a little more powerful so drop your load about 15%.

Triple seven is my prefered powder in my 50 cal TC Hawken. I use 90 grains in both the GM fast twist barrel and the TC barrel.

Triple 7 may burn cleaner than Pyrodex but in my experience - helping a young friend sight in his rifle - it still fouls badly and you need to wipe the barrel regularly.

60 grains of pyrodex P has served me very very well in my TC.

Several people on the forum have found 777 can be pretty hard on patches.

It is often tied to patches that are burned thru where the ball meets the bore.

I get that from 3F GOEX if I don't use an over-powder card.

I never had any luck with substitute powder. I only suggest real black powder. :2
