Took my walker apart to clean out a spent cap and I'me having a hard time getting the hammer spring back in. Can anyone give me some help? Thank you kindly. Teton

Not sure if I am doing this correctly or not, but I leave all the screws to my handle loose. when I am ready to put the main spring back together, I can squeez everything together enough with one hand so I can start the scews at both the back plate and bottom plate. Then tighten them all together. You have to make sure you get a good start on the screws though so you dont strip anything.

Not sure if this helps.....I am a pretty big guy and it takes a bit of a grip to pull this off. Who knows maybe I am weak and it will be easy for you :rotf:

I have heard folks mention here they tie the spring together or clamp it down somehow. I agree the screws need to be loosened a little to get that spring under the hammer.

That's the main reason I have been fiddling with a rebuild for a couple of years. The pain of removing and reinstalling the mainspring while trying to fit a Uberti part to an ASM gun. I have ground it many times, and ALMOST have it to the point that it can be cocked with one hand.

I don't like to have the screws too loose. I would hate to strip out the frame. So I loosen them slightly, clamp the frame in the vise, and push the mainspring in holding it with a set of visegrips. Not my favorite piece of gunsmithing.

Got the spring back in the walker. Used a vice, took out the hammer sqrew, pulled the hammer up and squizzed the spring down, got the spring under the hammer notch, pushed the hammer down to line up the sqrew. Tightened every thing up and its all good. Thanks alot for yor suggestions :hatsoff: :hatsoff: Teton
