used Ballistol for the first time last week at the range.

i mixed it with water approx. 1:3 (3 parts water)

i put it on the patches for lube, then after each shot ran a wet cleaning patch sprayed on with the same formulation.

shot for a few hours then at the end, again running a wet cleaning patch down the bore before heading home.

at home i rinsed the bore with water, and it was virtually almost completely clean. only a few small pieces of crud came out.

stuff works great, and it is non-toxic and environmentally safe.

I'm used balistol for several years now with the same results. I even use it to clean my hands after a day of shooting at the range.

been using ballistol for over a year. lub my cotton patches with pure ballistol till they change colour and feel damp but not wet. works great and very little mess

I use Ballistol in a 4:1 solution. Been using it for years. I can shoot all day without swabbing between shots. Each ball you ram home is wrapped in a patch that has been lubed in the same solution. Try seeing how many shots you can get off before the need to swab. Just might give you more time for shooting  .

I've been using Ballistol for a few years now. I mostly tried it to see if all the claims were true. I'm impressed and have continued using it. I mix mine with 5-7 parts water, depending on which gun it's going in. They all seem to have their own preference. I wet the patches and lay them out till the water evaporates out. That leaves the patches lightly and evenly lubed. It's a good combo for accuracy and it does keep the gun cleaner than most other lubes I've tried.

Straight Ballistol makes a really good solvent for suppository guns too.

I agree with all of the posts. Try wiping down the entire gun with a damp patch, it makes the gun look new. It is also wonderful for small cuts from those nasty sharp flints!

I have used Ballistol for about 3 years full strength or cut with 2 - 4 parts water. It is great stuff. I also recommend it to wipe down your guns for storage or after a damp day afield.

If you soak a patch in pure or 50% Ballistol, then how does enough remain on the patch to actually lube the ball down the bore? I'm used to fairly greasy patches lubed with Mink Oil. :hmm:

The water helps disperse the oil in the patch material, and when the water evaporates, it leaves behind a thin, EVEN, film on the cloth. Dutch Schoultz calls this the " Dry Lube " system. It does work. See Dutch's Website for details.

Does the Ballistol degrade the patch fabric over time on stored patches the was other lubes do?

It doesn't seem to, but I haven't used any that were more than a couple months old yet. I did discover some patches that I lubed up about a year ago. I plan on testing them side by side with freshly lubed patches just to see if there's a difference. Ballistol doesn't evaporate or gum up so I'm guessing it'll be pretty neutral on the patches, but the only way to tell is to shoot them. I'm hoping to get out shooting sometime this coming week or so. If I remember to bring the old patches, I'll post a report.
