Got a call today from a person identifying herself as a firearms officer with the state police. No name given, no state mentioned. No accent that I could tell. She said there was a problem with my recent black powder purchase and that several questions needed to be answered. I told her that I made no such purchase and to put her questions where the sun don't shine and hung up. I suspect that the scammers got my ID from a muzzle loader page where you must use your real name instead of a screen name.

Got a call today
A Phone call?
Home phone or cell?(or same?)
Given your experience here, how could they get your number?

I'm not critiquing, just wondering?. Our times have changed so much.
It's not ALL just hacking, it's sometimes foolhardy moves by other members,
I recently had a member publicly post a tracking number for an item I purchased, silly move, but somehow he felt it was necessary to broadcast a shipment's movements w/delivery time frame.

I shared in a different post that all of my personal data was stolen along with thousands of others in last Decembers "Solar Winds" attack. I've locked my credit easy enough, but one of my cards was used to make an "on-line' $400 purchase,,(!) That got fixed too,
But today,, it's all about "Ever Vigilante" and that's not just regarding the 2nd amendment anymore!

I was visiting my uncle a few years back. He got a phone call and he demanded they get to the house right away, "I want those new windows now" he exclaimed! I couldn't hear the other side of the conversation, but I can only imagine the poor caller on the other end inquiring as to why he was in such a hurry for new windows. My uncle's next statement was "I want those new windows now cause I'm filing for bankruptcy next week, it would sure be nice to have those new windows before I file". Next thing he was laughing to no end. The way he figured it...you weren't doing a good enough job if they don't hang up on you!

call phone. I have two cell phone numbers. The call was on the one I use for private matters, to call family, etc I could understand better if it was on the other number. That one is published all over the place.

I had my email hacked and had to change it. Somehow they got my password and froze my account. They wanted 500 in bitcoin. I didn't respond to them but I would wipe everything out of my computer and cell before I would ever give in. I don't think it came from this forum it just happened, you have to be careful.

I got a call last week that said if I did not reply in the next hour a warrant for my arrest would be issued. I hid in the barn for five days but they never came to arrest me .
I get those calls all the time. I finally told the guy that I would like 3 free meals a day and a place to stay so come and get me. I asked him how long it would be before they came to get me. He replied 40 minutes. A week later I get the call again so I told the guy I was still waiting to be arrested from the last call. Have got the same call 3 times since and I'm still here!

I got a call from Texas the other day; didn't answer because it was unknown to me. Did a search; the links were in Cyrillic...
A couple of e-mails supposedly from the USPS over the last few days - delete. Phishing or worse.

Bob
p.s.the only e-mails I've ever had from the USPS were confirmations of stamp orders/tracking #'s.

I get solar panel calls all the time. My cell is my business phone so I have to answer it. I was getting real tired of it. I googled it and read about the scam. They’re all Indians. I looked up common male Indian first names. Now I am Ramesh Patel in my best Indian accent. I tell them I’m an Indian phone scammer how can I help you? The hang up. Now I hope they call. It’s been fun turning it on them. They don’t know what to do when they hear that name. Haha

My favorite is to start speaking in Spanish, begging them to speak with me so I can practice speaking English…..they always hang up….except that one time when she spoke better Spanish than me.
