so you actually backed into precision by the imprecise measures you use....Fascinating! It makes perfect sense. Coincidentally, just a coupla days ago when loading my .45 Lancaster I thought to myself, "my measure says 75 grains, but how do I really know that it's pouring exactly that?" Gotta get out that beam scale from my smokelesss powder reloading days!

The first step in any accuracy ~ with rifle, shotgun, bow, snowball, whatever ~ is consistancy. Whenever I make a measure I throw ten or so charges with it and weigh them to make sure nothing catches or fills poorly and that it really gives what I want it to (bone measures are not as sommth as drilled or reamed measures).

I've settled on 80 grains of Graf's FFg and a 245 grain Buffalo Ballette in my .50. It is just as accurate as any prb load, and since hog and bear seasons run in between the two deer seasons here, I don't have to change loads.
Small game, and varmints .36 prb with 30 grains FFFg of the same powder.
Still workin' on a shot load for the smooth bore.

Deer I like 80 grains of 3fg over a patched 490 rb. Bear over bait 100 grains of same

CVA Deerslayer conical over 60gr 2f GOEX.
490 prb over 60gr 3f GOEX.
Both these loads print in the same place at 75 yards.

For big game hunting(Elk, Mule Deer, Black Bear and Antelope) 125 measured grains of Goex ffg and .530 ball with .015 wonderlubed patch. For off season winter trekking(Yotes and any legal small game)55 measured grains of fffg, .445 ball with .015 wonderlubed patch. Meathead
