Has anyone had any dealings with Sitting Fox Custom Muzzleloaders? I came across their site while looking for colonial style fowlers.

Yes, I had Ray build me a custom Jaeger rifle.
Exelent quality. I would not hesitate to buy from him again.Very good prices.

I just got the Colonial Fowler kit on Monday. Good parts set and the precarved stock is really nice but I do have to do a little more inletting than I thought. I will be starting a running thread on building it from a beginners point of view soon. Kit arrived about 2 weeks from date of order and everything was as described. Check the Gun Builders Bench for my pics of the kit.

For a proper colonial fowling piece kit you should be looking to the Jim Chambers line or Mike Brooks' Birmingham kit. The quality difference of parts components and design of these far exceeds the difference in the prices of non-comparable cheaper versions.

Capt. Jas. is correct. My kit is not 100% PC but meets my needs for function and price. The Chambers kit or Mike Brooks is more PC for a little more money. Depends on what you want. Don't know if there's much difference in parts quality but Mike Brooks stuff would be top quality without a doubt.

I checked out their web site. Very nice selection and excellent explanations about the guns offered. And, prices are very attractive.

You know, Rifleman; one of my guns was criticized by a few "experts" not knowing (I'm supposing) that I used Chambers and other respected parts makers for the various parts. The criticisms were based solely on the builder I chose; the builder wasn't one of the few anointed. Wonder how they justified their own recommendations being called crappy?

If you read the writeups on many of the Sitting Fox guns you will wonder if they eealy know much about the history of ML's which causes me to wonder just how good they can be at making guns they seem to know little about, this is common with builders in that tier of the buisness I suspect the writeups are more sales related than any kind of accurate description of the type of guns, but the price range of these builders is very attractive to many folks and ,most probably do not recognize the difference twixt what the guns are are and what the should be so to speak. Many have said that these builders can make a very PC/HC gun if asked, I have not seen one so cannot comment on that.

I bought the F-94 Virginia Ash Fowler he still has listed on his site for sale. Needed a little bit of work but it shoots pretty good now.

May want to do a quickie search. There was another very recent thread about Siting Fox on which I explained why I was a little less than thrilled with a rifle I bought from them. I figure telling the tell once is enough. :)
