snub nose 1851

Does anyone have a snub nose 1851. I saw one on DGW and it looks awesome. I wonder if its small enough to fit in a jeans pocket. I have been carrying my '58 brass snub nose until I can carry a modern gun (I got attacked by another dog so I am carry a gun everywhere now) then I see a '51 snubbie and now I got to have one. Of course if I get one I am going to get a full size and then chop the barrel down and then change the grip frame for a new project

If you are just worried about dogs a Colt .31 pocket pistol would be a better way to go.

well the police and animal control said this last one was the biggest and most vicious pit-bull they have ever seen and since my uncle has told stories of it taking 11 .45acp shots to drop a medium sized pit-bull I think I want a .44 (I meant to mention if I do make one it will probably be one of the make believe .44s). This wont be a permanent carry gun just until I get my permit. It also just like a really fun gun. Oh and back to the dog, since this was its first reported attack they are letting the owner keep it :cursing:

Not too long ago I cut down a barrel on a brasser in .44 due to it becoming unusable for safety reasons. I took the barrel and added it to a steel framed .44 and added a sight to it. The revolver works great at short range, as a belly gun should. As soon as I get it cleaned up, I'll take some pics. :grin:

Having shot with more than a few police, I have to wonder how many of those 11 shots actually hit the dog! :haha:

Because you lose the loading lever when building a snub nose, a Remmy just makes a lot more sense. I really like what Mike did here:

Are you asking about one of the .44 "Navies" with the Colt Lightening/Thunderer grip? I had a chance to fondle one at Dixie's booth at the Spring Nationals,fantastic feel and balance. It is a full size .44 Colt with the exception of the short barrel. I would say it is too big and heavy to carry concealed though I have carried a 6" .41 Mag. S&W before.

I just noticed, are you carrying concealed? If so a firearm of ANY sort is a concealed weapon and the same laws apply regarding age and need of a permit.

I do believe in many jurisdictions any form of weapon that is concealed is a no no without proper permits.

Open carry is an option in some places.

Paul I am carrying pretty much the exact same gun except mine is a brass frame and I cut the barrel down to 3 5/8" Mikes gun is actually the inspiration for the one I made.

As far as the legalities go in my state (Indiana) title 35 article 47 chapter 2 deals with the carrying of a handgun (we are a handgun state not a weapon state)section 19 (IC 35-47-2-19) exempts blackpowder guns from this chapter "Application of chapter
Sec. 19. This chapter does not apply to any firearm not designed to use fixed cartridges or fixed ammunition, or any firearm made before January 1, 1899.
As added by P.L.311-1983, SEC.32."

so legally I can carry concealed or openly as long as it doesn't accept fixed ammunition or was made before jan. 1 1899

don't know if it qualifies as a snub nose but here is a pic of an old ASM 1851 in .44 that I cut down to 5 1/2 inches. It handles nice and is handy to have on my hip.

I was actually thinking about carrying a 5 1/2 1858 but decided against it since most of the cops dont know that it is legal to carry one

If it's a pitbull- maybe you'd be better off with a big knife. Most folks have no idea what kind of damage a big knife makes.

I stabbed one last august and he died a little while later but the one I am fighting now is HUGE and I want something a little better. I still always have a belt knife though

Most folks while experience a dog attack but a few times in their lifetime.
Do people train attack dogs in your neibhorhood then just turn'm loose? :idunno:
