How many of you use your SXS for fowl and game such as deer? And if you were to choose a bore size for shot and ball what would it be. Have always wondered if it would be worth the extra expence of the double barrel? I have my wish list set on a smoothbore. Your comments Please and Thanks

Be sure to check your state & local regs for multi-barreled muzzleloaders. Some locals get real snippy about double barrels. Past that, have played with a double 12 and .690 balls which did a fair job accuracy wise. After a while I went off on a different tangent...had to play with something else.

I've been chating with my local blackpowder shop guy and he said he never had real good luck with doubles shooting PRB very well. At least not both barrels hitting the same place. I guess I never thought about checking the regulations.I think I may just settle for a single. The main reason is to grouse hunt. Thanks for the reply

For upland hunting the regs in all states are the same, so if you can use a SxS or O&U cartridge shotgun in your state your good to go.

The regs come into play for large game and two barrels, in my state of NJ a double barreled MZ for deer is a no-no.

I kicked the idea around some. Several years ago I was grouse hunting with my 8ga sxs perc and it occured to me that, since elk was open I could hunt both at the same time. My intension was to load one barrel with shot and one with ball. Then, while grouse hunting if an elk bugled, I could try to call him in and I would be loaded and ready. I bought a mould from jeff Tanner for the 8 but then got busy with other stuff and have yet to work up a load. SXS is not an issue as we have no ML season and I hunt the general rifle season. I think the concept is good
