I got an E-mail to day from them that said my part should arrive today. :)

Congratulations to Bill and Alexander!!!
I faxed a NEW list on Monday this week, 10/20. If I don't hear back by next Monday, 10/27 I will fax it again, like last time. Hopefully after 2-3 tries and a phone call I'll get a response like last time? Rick. :hatsoff:

I wish you guys the best

Got my order in today’s mail, one each # 579, 787, and 890 everything I had expected and complete.

I also had them backorder #641, 619, 625, 685 and 535. I won’t worry about them if I don’t see any of
them till next year or so. I may not order anything else this year.

For those interested in what I got today they did list them as on hand at that time.

The way I do things doesn’t work for everyone I know, but it does for me.

To those who question whether I will receive my TRS parts set--- when TRS has said that they are ready to ship my order, they have always done so. The problem is the long wait getting to that point. Since Mike Melot told me in the recent email that my order was now complete and would be shipped next week, I tend to believe him based on my past experience.

I understand that you don't mind the long wait, but to many a long wait shouldn't be more than a few weeks. Surely not a year or more. That is just poor customer service and lack of concern for their customer base. After reading what I have here from others and from the waits you've settled for I swear I will never do business with a company like this. I bet that I am not the only one. Life is too short to let a business treat you this way.

If we were speaking about patches, jags, ramrod blanks, powder measures, powder horns... I would agree with you.

Stuff like that should be shipped on the day the order is received.

TRS on the other hand is the only place in the world that offers many parts that are needed to build some of the historic firearms from the past.

Many of these parts don't exist anywhere when the order is placed, even at TRS.

They have the patterns to make the castings for the parts but they do not keep a supply of the castings on hand. Perhaps they should but special castings cost money and another builder may not want that particular casting for years.

That said, I do think TRS owes it to anyone ordering these long lead items should be told up front about the length of time it will take to get whatever it is made.

There is also no way that TRS should charge a cent against the customers charge card until the item is being shipped.

Now, I can sit back and watch. :) :pop:

Zonie, I shared that perspective with someone here that PM'd me, oddly angry anyone would wait for anything. You and I are snobs.

It took Michelangelo 4 years to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Good art takes time.
Sherwin Williams could have painted it in a day! :rotf:

Nice work Wulf, what alloy did you make it out of?
I've been using stress proof from Brownells for all my screw making. It's partially hardened about like scope mounting screw stock and turns beautifully.
What's the thread pitch for the cock screw?

Add me to that list too. I almost always have something on order from them. I am perfectly aware it will take a very long time to get my parts, which ALWAYS arrive in due time. My builds are planned years ahead of time so waiting for parts is never an issue.

TRS offers truly unique parts, and despite their business quirks, we are very lucky to have them. If some people don't want to wait for parts, no skin off my back. The only suggestion I have for you is to not order from them, and save yourself the stress of having to wait. In this world of instant gratification they are an anomaly. I for one will happily sit a wait for my parts.

Well said. Too much whining from people who have no need for the parts available from TRS and can not understand the reality of planing in advance so that what seems like an inordinate wait to some who insist on instant gratification or have a hissy fit is just a matter of course.

There has been to much talk by people not involved in the work these parts are needed for of legal action involving credit card companies - what they allow a seller/merchant to do and how they can "protect" us. That was a joke right? Yes, they have some leverage with the seller and maybe in a very rare instance that has saved a buyer from being ripped off but, get serious. Credit Card companies are not going to do that much, especially when a merchant states right up front in writing what their policies for payment are - TRS does that plainly and they follow it to the letter, the CC company can do nothing to protect you from yourself and actually doesn't want to, they will take advantage of you just as badly as the worst merchant.

As Claude said, "It sounds like there aren't any victims here, only willing participants." True Claude, I think someone is finally catching on to reality.

Actually, in the world of good communication and decent customer service, they are a joke. :hatsoff:

If you're happy with their lack of service, just enjoy it. People seem to be proud that they're waiting for years for a small part?

Proud!? This is part of what I shared with some guy who attacked TRS to me privately (?) and seems to think little should take more than getting a small bowl of grits at Waffle House whenever he wants...

Everyone's entitled to an opinion.

I have contentedly waited years for unique parts and/or work from TRS. And I bought an unfired complete stand of arms from someone who waited twelve (12) years for it from them. In part we were glad TRS even existed and thankful that they delivered at all. But clearly these were luxury items, almost frivalous investments in a hobby by, frankly, folks at a higher level in "the hobby" than you. Sometimes thos'll pay off quickly at one end of the spectrum and maybe never at all at the other end -- where we play it's more risky.

Such clearly isn't for you.

The service is what it is. Frankly, giving money to any of these custom providers is always a risk and you should never part with money you are not willing to lose as far as I'm concerned. And none of them ever tell the truth about turnaround time -- that's a question of degree. I still trust TRS' intent though, yes, their execution leaves, um, something to be desired... LOL Yet inarguably this would be a sadder hobby and world without them which is something many on one plane here just don't, won't, get.

Yeah, it's a case of only one guy in the business of making what you need. You may grouse about how long it takes to get that one single item that you need but if you absolutely need it and he is the only one making it, you are still glad he is in business even if you don't like his service.

Well, based on what everyone is saying, I sure hope I never find myself in need of one of his items that only he makes. But if I do, I'll probably be one of the folks who are pissed about the service but glad he is in the bussiness of making what I need or I'd find myself doing without it......forever.
