Wow! The topic was SPAM. Now we’re into hurt feelings. I suppose no one watches the news, because someone’s feelings would certainly be hurt. What ever happened to “stick and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me”? We have raised a generation that seems to be offended by every little thing, and need safe spaces to run to to avoid having their feeling hurt. They need counseling because their candidate didn’t get elected President. They talk about micro-aggressions, subtle little things that offend. People lose their jobs because of stupid things they did when they were teens or young adults decades ago.
Free speech is dead, all because we might hurt someone’s feelings or offend someone. The founders would be rolling around in their graves! I’m glad I’m old, cause this PC crap is not for me.

Now about SPAM, I love it fried with eggs and Tabasco! Also like what the Hawaiians have done with the musubi!
Freedom of speech doesn't allow you to say anything you want, whenever you want to whomever you want with NO fallout for your statements. What I lament is the loss of civility and manners - this is the problem, not the possibility that someone's feelings might be hurt...

There is no reason to be rude/crude/insensitive/bigoted/obnoxious just because you can (in the guise of "Free speech")...

I’m sorry, but the 1st amendment protects unpopular speech. Yes, you have to accept the consequences of your speech, but there is nothing in the bill of rights regarding a right not to be offended. Differing views promote discourse. Free speech and free thought go hand in hand.

As they say, let us agree to disagree.

Yes - unpopular speech is protected FROM MEDDLING BY THE GOVERNMENT - In other words, the government can't restrict free-expression, but even this comes with limits including restricting some free-expression. If you need proof of this, walk into an airport and free-express yourself by saying "I have a bomb and plan on hijacking an airplane." You'll clearly see that your free-expression will be quickly restricted by the government in a very spectacular, immediate and potentially devastating way.
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech...
The 1st amendment doesn't protect people from the fallout of their statements (up to and including ending up dead, in court or in jail because of what they say). It is also/primarily those around us that decide if what we say is appropriate...

Did it ever occur to you “Crankshaft” that there may be vegans who read these posts? There might be vegans who are blackpowder enthusiasts as well. Why is it necessary to degrade other people to make your point? Is there just one way, and by chance, is that way your way only?

As to spam; my father served four years flying Liberators in WWII for about 3 of those years. He never allowed spam in our home at any time after the war until his death. They got a steady diet of spam, and learned to dislike it presumably because this was a steady party of their diet.
Keep in mind, there are many true believers who insist you do as they do. Not only vegans, but any number of radical politicos, religious evangelists, sexual alternatives.
Anyone who demands you respect and acknowledge their behavior/beliefs/lifestyles/ dietary peculiarities thru boycotts, in-your-face confrontations, legislation to ban anything they don't agree with - these are the 'morons'. Those who go about their business without insisting everyone else knows about it are the ones to be respected.

I like flint ignition and patched roundballs, but I don't find it necessary to incessantly remind everyone about it, nor convert conical or caplock users to 'my' way.

So, go eat your tofurky, but don't insist I must do the same, and don't lie about properties or contents of meat, and definitely don't try to legislate mandatory vegan diets.

spam doesn’t have as much gelatin as it used too. If you wanted gelatin, those canned chickens had them all beat. But my favorite was headcheese, with mustard and onion - what a sandwich! The deli doesn’t carry it anymore because not many people eat headcheese. Sad
I like Head Cheese. It is tough enough that it can be sliced really thin without falling apart. The local Frys Grocery (Kroger) has Boar's Head meats at the deli counter & always has head cheese. Apparently a lot of folks at my store buy head cheese, since every time I go in to get a pound of it, they have to go open a new one.

I don’t think we should have to walk on eggshells when ever we post something. Infact you’ve written a thing or to in response to me I could get offended at, and you got edgie when I pointed it out to.
We’re big boys and girls we should be able to shrug off something offensive.
I recall something from playboy magazine back in the 70s.” A censor can see pornographery where no one else can.” So to with offensive speech. People get hammered today for stating facts that are unpopular

I'm not certain how I could say it more clearly - MAKING BLANKET STATEMENTS ABOUT AN ENTIRE GROUP OF PEOPLE IS THE PROBLEM...

People will get offended regardless of how something is posted on a website because there is little to provide context (such as inflection, gestures and facial expressions).

Edgy...? Doubt it.
Frustrated...? Maybe.
Once again, your interpretation of the written word. You provided the context, and the context you provided was incorrect.

I'm always amazed at how some forget freedoms and rights also carry responsibilities. Those of us who use and enjoy firearms need to be especially cognizant of that fact.

I’ll take frustrated as a possible. I first wrote upset, but then thought that would be wrong, changed to edgie, but frustrated sounds better. Er you keep on responding to what I have to say, and I you, and I have ‘liked’ a lot that you posted, I think you gave me a thumbs up a time or two. We’re big boys and can handle when someone else thinks we’re wrong or silly or impolite about something.
BlNket statements are a stock in trade for humanity. It helps us see the world in ways we can understand.
Not every Brit likes tea and crumpets, not every redneck likes catfish, but stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason. All cats are black after midnight, even if they change color when you flash a light on them.

Sterotypes, to me, indicate a narrow view of life. Groups are composed of individuals and I prefer to decide for myself on a case-by-case basis.
Have I interacted with some individuals I was convinced by their behaviors/actions that they were grade-A, certifiable idiots & morons? Absolutely.
Do I extend what I think of an individual to a group of people as a whole? Not really.

Yet stereotypes form our political basis. Over 90% of American People of recent African ancestors vote Democrat. Fundamentalist Christians tend to vote Republican. “Typical” Californians are politicly more liberal then Oklahomans.
Insurance is also based on stereotypes. Teenage drivers tend to be worse drivers then the middleaged. And Free market is also based on stereotypes. There is not much of a market for some food stuffs in small town Iowa as there is in big city New England. Wall mart even stocks its stores to serve what’s popular in that community.
Yes people need to be taken as they come. However people tend to form groups based on some shared personal out look and sense of community. And those grouped from vegan to living history buff to online gamers tend to share many outlooks and personality traits.

I disagree with the above statements because we can count/measure/poll voting, political leanings and safety data - making determinations based upon actual NUMBERS. They are not assumptions based upon personal and biased (perhaps unfounded) opinion(s).

Actually I'd say polling data is poor these days as a lot of it is intentionally skewed from the start, their sample being bad.

NOW Teenage drivers, that's actual gathered data and the sample group is the entire body of insured drivers for the past half century or so...

Polling data can be skewed by the way questions are written, but it also depends on the polling organization and their potential bias. For example - You can't trust an evangelical christian poll to be objective about evolution, science or sex education. Regardless, you can still ask people what they support and the data should be generally representative of the group to which they belong.

So I guess I'll be the chosen one....What the heck does all this Spam and hurt feelings have to do with Muzzleloading?
I don't use Spam in my barrel and I have no feelings...Just sayin

Well, ....
Someone postulated the use of Spam as sort of a psudo/substitute of some kind of salt pork thing, ... then someone else dropped a comment that was labeled as offensive to certian people, ... and that's about when I got me a big bowl of popcorn an a large drink, and sat back to see where this went!
Long story short, ... some got their clouts all twisted, ... some didn't, ... and they been arguin, real entertainin like ever since.
Quite educational on several different levels actually.;)
