I never was all that concerned about them, either, until all the diseases started popping up. My father in law almost died from anaplasmosis a few years back. I was having problems with my shoulder and had blood tests run thinking it could be Lymes. Guess what? Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Yep, had it. At least the antibodies for it. Never had symptoms.

I'm a firm believer in Permethrin now.

The comments about Sulphur jogged my memory. My great uncle that I hunted with as a kid always used it. I may have some around here somewhere.

I went to the doctor, and he told me not to worry about it and sent me home. That weekend, my wife had to take me to the ER. I couldn't hardly get out of bed. The dr. at the ER told me if I'd waited a day or two, I would have died. Apparently Lyme disease can cause heart failure. You guys can scoff all you want, but tick bites are nothing to just blow off as nothing. Watch them carefully, they can and will kill you if you miss the symptoms.

I hate the little buggers. Some of them have left scars on me that lasted for months. When I pull em off of me, I like to turn on the electric stove, drop em in the middle and see how far the little vampires make it. No mercy here.

Maybe not, but infections of other kinds can be had by leaving the head of the tick in the skin, or both Lyme and other diseases as well as secondary infections can be transmitted by squeezing the tick too hard trying to just pull it out.

I’m much the same only reversed the mozzies go for the wife but generally leave me alone.
As a child on my first seaside holiday, everyone was getting bitten by sandflies [do you have them ?] nasty little creatures but I was never bothered by them and so it’s proved all my life.
We’ve got ticks but they’re not a great problem.
Years ago when a mate’s daughter was about &seven she got a tick in a very private part and I held her down whilst her father got it out; i think he used turpentine anyway she fought hard.
In her 60s now and laughs about it but for years the incident was only mentioned at some peril

Speaking of ticks...

This morning I grabbed my rifle, walked out onto the lawn to start shooting, and I felt something on the back of my neck. It was a tick crawling up my neck.

I have no idea where it came from.

Seems to me like some of you guys are making an awfully big deal over a tick bite.
Tick removal tools? Really? You would think we were talking about snake or black widow spider bites.
I have had thousands of tick bites over the years as have many of my friends. A couple of times I have had thousands of them on me at once ( thankfully, i was able to scrape most of them off of my clothes with a knife blade before they bit me ).
I still get a few bites once in a while, and when I find them I simply yank them out with my fingers and get on with my business. No big deal.

Three years later and I still wouldn’t say things are back to normal. He has no recollection of any tick bite. Mid 30s and walks like an old man. He is on something to help with suicidal thoughts and it’s unlikely he will get his guns back in the foreseeable future.

One of my best friends was the second diagnosed case of Lyme disease in Missouri 30 years ago. Almost killed him because the doctor refused to believe the blood tests that were positive and refused to treat him for it. It took years for him to get back close to normal after changing doctors.
A neighbor had a case of it 20 years ago and prompt treatment fixed him right up.
I am very aware of the potential risks.

I've been removing ticks for 65 years, I believe I know what I'm doing. The point is, if you get a tick carrying the Lyme disease, nothing you do will change the outcome. Hubris can be deadly.

It may not be a big deal to you, but when you come down with Lyme disease you will be singing a different tune. I got Lyme disease about three years ago,never saw the tick, but I've never been so sick for so long in my life. Fortunately I got tested after about two weeks and $12,000 worth of tests,I was put on antibiotics and made a full recovery.

Spend 9 days in intensive care with kidney and liver failure, my wife having to decide if I'm to be put on dialysis or not with Rocky Mountain Fever. You develop a healthy respect for them little buggers.

Ticks and chiggers are bad here this year. The dogs bring ticks inside about every day. I like Sawyers tick and insect repellent. I treat a few pairs of outside pants, a pair of shoes and boots. Only had one on me that was biting. Chiggers on the other hand have covered my ankles and a few up my legs and sides.
