A few months ago, I bought a Pedersoli Trade Gun. Folks who own them seem to really like them. I'm having alot of fun with mine, however it seems "finicky". Meaning I've had a few misfires with it. I've done nothing with the lock but considering having the hammer hardened and possibly getting it tuned. I just can't seem to get the nice shower of sparks I'd like to get from it.

I posted one for you. The Pedersoli "kit" is an "in the white" gun. I bought my .40 from Jackie "in the white" and it cost more than does the Pedersoli kit. Further, I can't imagine you can lay your hands on a "in the white gun" made by a semi-custom builder for under $1000. That Track of the Wolf gun looks like it's a bargain, by the way.

The only thing about this is the fact that lock mortise needs work in order to be safe. Are you willing to try and fix this?

I have a pedersoli Indian trade musket and really like it so far . it's my first smooth bore . going to try for squirrels this weekend. Ignition has been 100 percent reliable.

Trouble area is under the lock plate. Needs to be relieved a bit as some of the lock parts are contacting the wood. Even a cave man could do it. That's a good deal on that gun.

Jackie is still posting guns for sale on the ALR forum classifieds, both "in the white," and finished.

O.P. Be patient, save your money up. Especially if you want some semblance of historical accuracy, and want to hunt turkeys. Generally longer barrels pattern shot better than the same bore diameter with a shorter barrel. You should be able to do very well for about $1,000 to $1,100.
There is a nice Type-G trade gun for sale in the classifieds now.

Thanks to an excellent member here, a fellow Army vet, I picked up a 20 gauge fowler today. Made by Larry Cordray, it has a 42 inch barrel, it is balanced nicely and is quite light. He cautioned me on the terrible addiction to flintlocks, but facilitated my journey into smokey madness by selling it to me anyway! Now I have to work up loads. For round ball he gave pretty clear instructions that worked for him. For shot he gave me a good starting point. Going to have to get some range time in now.
Thanks all for the guidance and suggestions. I'll be leaning on you folks more as I have questions after range sessions.
