Traditions Kentucky rifle kit...to buy or not

I have just finished a Traditions Trapper pistol with a custom .40 cal. barrel and would like to build a long rifle. I have a Traditions Pa pellet but wan't to build something myself. Is the Traditions Kentucky kit worth the price??? I am on a VERY limited budget. I was plannin' on buying the Kentucky and adding Lyman adjustable sights and playing with wire and plate inlays on it. The Trapper is the only one I've built so far.

What do the experts think....Is it worth it???? For a beginner to experiment on???

It really depends on what you are looking to get out of it.
You are spending less than $200 and the quality of the parts are not that great. If you are not expecting much then go for it. If you can go to a shop that has a rifle that you are thinking about and has some better rifles, that might help you to make a better decission.
Just a note: I was at hunting store that sells new/used guns and saw the gun that you wanted to build for $69 finished. The person mechanically did alright but the wood working was terrible and the barrel was in the white. :m2c:

Traditions.....I personally have no problem with them..
many do....I dont.
if ya just want a rifle to shoot , I would say to check out the auctions...gunbroker or auction arms..
$200 will get ya a fine LYMAN TRADE Rifle or a Lyman Great Plains Rifle...maybe a TC Hawkins, or etc etc...
ya wont really have to go thru BUILDING one....
There is a guy on gunbroker WHO IS SELLING assembled
( non stained) DEER CREEK rifles that are a copy of the Famed CVA MOUNTIAN rifle $185 + shipping...not a bad deal
I just shopt my TRADITIONS SHENNANDOAH .50 today..
great little gun....got it fer $75 at a FLEA market...
Looks like new.....but I couldnt "build " one that NICE...
JEST AT THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME...

I am not inclined to BUILD....

The reason I was looking towards the Traditions Kentucky is that I WANT to build it. For me that is the best part of the black powder sport is building your own stuff. I have made 2 powder horns, and a bunch of stuff out of leather. As far as re-selling....it will never happen...NOT my muzzleloaders anyway...I sold an SKS, Buckmark, and a Remington .270 to get the blackpowder guns I have. I am slowly but surely switching to all blackpowder guns. I was just looking for the best bang for the buck in kit form to get me started in the building scene.

I think for the money, you will probably learn something from that kit that will help you on advanced projects, and if you are very careful, you'll probably get a fine shooter. I know my CVA mountain rifle kit has helped me get started, and shoots just fine.
