Trying to understand this “short arbor” on Uberti revolvers

Agreed that a flat spring works best for the hammer. I have a couple of open tops that I did full coil spring conversions on. The jury is still out as to well it works.
 
What's that got to do with a short arbor or handspring tension? At least it doesn't have a drag line.
 
Now that's a first for me! Never seen a BP cylinder fail like that especially on a brasser, Any details as to what happened? Was it loaded with smokeless? Inquiring minds want to know.
