Maybe. I’ve long preferred Uberti over Pietta. But the recent efforts from both manufacturers are very good quality. At least those I’ve seen. I would expect CNC manufacturing would give them both the opportunity at least to provide consistent quality, fit and finish.

That being said, I would hesitate to buy any secondhand stuff online at least for the present time. To many people are unloading the pieces of junk they’ve had languishing under the workbench or in the basement...

I attest to that. Im looking for a Uberti 1858 5.5 for some time now and on another forum I was offered several older pieces that were obviously not up to the mark and were being dumped as solid examples.

Until recently the cap & ball revolvers didn't cost a heck of a lot, think I paid just over $200 yankee dollars for an F. LLI Pietta 1862 Police, fit and finish overall, was quite good, I think. I mean, for a couple hundred bucks whattaya expect?

Ok but what do people expect now since prices have doubled in the past year? Yes, for $200 OK, but with no change in quality and shops charging $400 plus i think a lot is expected.

Hard to say anything since its all covid pricing which means that shipping costs are excessive right now. When covid slows down and international flights and shipping are restored, the Italians, Brazilians and Turks will flood the market. Prices will come back down and the quality-per-dollar will be more in line again. But that said, its no excuse to supply Grade D parts in any case. I have less experience than many in here but as I know, Uberti makes good things so im surprised at the OPs ordeal.

Well supply and demand has played a role in the price increase. And then there's monetary inflation. The revolver hasn't really increased in price, the value of the currency is going down.

I suspect "you ain't seen nothin' yet" applies here. They are literally giving away confetti-bucks at this point, with no thought much less even discussion of the effects. Hint: none of them are any good. The quality of reproduction antiques isn't going to factor. Jus' Sayin'.

Yeah I’ll be sticking with Taylor’s from now on. Numrich may be good with other parts, I don’t know. But this bothered me cause it specifically said “Uberti factory original part”
VTI has always treated me well. And they’re as knowledgeable as they come wrt replica parts

Last couple of Uberti that I have come into had arbors over .100” short and bore groove diameters well over cylinder bore diameter. Guess I am too fussy. Oh, and they didn’t shoot very accurately, at least in my opinion.
I hear you on the groove diameters typically.454-456 but that’s the same for every .44 I’ve seen... uberti chambers used to be .451 or so .Pietta .449 or less. Some revolvers seem to shoot ok in spite of this. Some never will. I only own two that have not been reamed to groove diameter at least. The Rugers and Pietta Shooters model came that way from the factory.

Hawken,
Supply and demand *IS* the factor in an item not dependent on international shipping (imports) for the whole or any part of itself right now. When imported items began drying up at the onset of covid because airplanes stopped (and coinciding with the riot-driven demand) shops (and/or distributors) raised their prices on what was left. Since at least June, maybe earlier, the absence of imported stock wasnt because of intense demand that remained, it was because there were no planes flying the goods. I'll bet $1 that if covid ended today and Pietta and the others flew in 2 million pistols, most will sit on shelves and prices will drop because demand isnt all that it seems. But that said, when people see empty shelves they panic and suddenly dont care what they have to pay because they incorrectly think the door is closing. If they just relaxed and thought of the real reasons, they wouldnt overpay and just wait, like with ammo. The wild card in all this as we sit on Feb, 2021 and not hindsight of the past year is government hooligans who may yet ban everything. If we were only dealing with shipping, gold, oil and Forex prices as reasons, we might more clearly see if demand was sufficient to produce pistols and cylinders locally and do that instead of relying on imports.
