I ain't smart enough!!!! I don't have internet at home right now and I haven't figured out how to take a picture from the gallery off my phone and put it on a forum. I can barely run my "smart" phone...

You are injecting Elliot Carbines. Why not Knock's too? Those aren't true Bess Carbines though, right!?

We know the English had carbines (especially for cavalry and maybe for artillery, lights, Highlanders...).

This isn't a Bess either:

I do believe there were cut down Bess'. I also believe they were a custom exception unless someone can prove that wrong.

I mention the Elliot because the Pedersoli Carbine does indeed look like the Elliot in almost every way .Lack of the ring slide bar.

I shot my Pedersoli Bess for the first time today and wow, what a good time. No drama getting it to work and it's only my second flintlock (the other being a single shot pistol). It took a couple of shots to "zero" it - get some kind of sight picture that would let me hit the target with some consistency - but really it was no big deal to get rolling with it.

The only real problem is that I ran through a lot of balls and I need to go buy a mold now.

At about 11 ball per pound you will need to find a good cheap source of lead. Good thing that either wheelweights or pure lead will work just about the same. Bess's also suck up powder at a ferocious rate as well. At 7,000 grains per pound a 100 grain charge only gives you 70 shots per can.

The best part though is shooting the monsters.

Many Klatch

Don't you basically use the same powder charge for everything you really shoot amyway? Sure ya do...

The powder's the main concern, given California legalities (it's not often enforced but you're not supposed to have more than a pound at a time and the closest seller is about two hours from here.)

At the moment I'm buying lead from rotometals because they're neighbors but the bess is definitely going to get signed up to use scrounged lead when I get to that point.

I have decided to go with the Northwest star trade gun. I paid my deposit and just have to wait until they get it built. I appreciate all the information. I think the trade gun will be a better fit for me.
