Harvest: 100-300 lbs venison or elk, a fried rabbit, smoked duck etc.

That’s a truism. On the news a picture of a gun is often used as the background for a story on crime. In movies we know a guy is the bad guy when the we see a gun in his drawer or car.
You tube offers vids of anti-gunners shooting a gun. Often the new shooters are struck with almost fainting at the near touch of a gun.

When you pull the trigger and something dies then it is a weapon, just like a bow and arrow, a tomahawk or a mace. These just happen to be less complicated than an AR15.

Sadly there is truth.
The truth is it's weapon regardless of what you call it. Rightly so. You cannot sugar coat reality. You cannot appease those who hate you so why participate in the same lie albelit switched around and reversed?

The truth is firearms whether for collecting, hunting or target shooting have great destructive power. Part of living and even dying in a free society is the basic acknowledgment of this fact whether it be a 40MM Bofors of a 97 Buick.

Just last week a hunter was killed in his tree stand on his hunting lease by a 16 year old poacher. The hunter took a face full of buck shot as he was on his cell contacting the game warden.

Point A....
Suddenly the 16 yearold's shotgun definately became a weapon.
Point B...
Since the hunter took a face full of buckshot while he was calling the law, apparently his rifle did not.

Draw your own conclusions here.

Personally even with a flintlock, I consider it not only a hunting tool but also a weapon for self preservation should the need arise.

To do otherwise In my opinion is naive.

IMO, it's not exactly a hunting topic but it is about the way hunters think of their firearms.

I considered moving it to the General Muzzleloading section but the members who don't hunt would quickly change it to a discussion about using firearms for dozens of things that don't have anything to do with hunting.

Yeah, the news people repeatedly show a picture of the Florida murderer menacingly holding a handgun. It's an airsoft pistol. :haha:

So, if I go bear hunting and the bear, upon hearing the click as I cock my gun, the bear comes at me and I defend myself, did I use a weapon.
