Thank's for the advice fellas! I will remove it if I can. This barrel will probably go down the road, I'm looking to do a .40 cal. build.
lemme know if you do want to sell it. always interested in flinter barrels. but i would encourage you to fix that liner just for the experience.
it shouldn't protrude inth the barrel at all. it will interfere with ignition and cleaning.

Shooting my flintlock and the smaller 6" steel today. As much fun as a guy can have with his buckskins on... :)

Inspected & oiled my GPR and thought about refinishing the stock. I’m sure I’ll keep putting it off till I’m too close to deer season to get it.🙄

I hosted a Woods Walk Blanket Shoot at the Wittenberg Sportsmen’s Club in Woodstock NY. Eighteen shooters participated. Several came from NJ and one came from PA. The weather was fantastic. A good time was had by all.

I will host another shoot on August 8.
PM me if your interested.

I’ve turned over my parts to my builder to take my Early Hawken Style Flintlock Plains Rifle and assemble it into a functional firearm. I’ve posted about this project in several threads over the last couple months. This project is a bit over my level, and I have no confidence in my abilities to do the build any justice. My builder called me over the weekend and asked me to stop by and look at the progress…I’m anxious to see the gun.

This is a firearm that I’ve wanted for as long as I’ve been going to Rendezvous as a kid. I recall seeing my first ever full stock Hawken Plains Rifle when I was a kid. The guy next to me, on the firing line, was shooting his custom gun. I shot horribly that day, because I kept sneaking peaks at his gun and couldn’t focus.

We’ll be having lunch today at his favorite eatery…little family run Mexican Restaurant in north Loveland.

He is such a good guy. I’ve never met anyone with a bigger, kinder heart. He turned 90 about a week ago, I count myself fortunate to call him friend. I love his stories, an afternoon spent with him is an afternoon well spent.

Our NMLRA Charter Club, the Yadkin Valley Rangers had several members participate in conducting the NRA Basic Muzzleloading course for over 20 people in Winchester VA. As a part of that work last weekend, we also administered the shooting Qualification for the further Instructor series to follow.

picked it up from a friend a couple of weeks ago, he hadn't been using it but each year he would get it out check for rust and give the wood metal and everything a wipe over with linseed, after 20 years of this it looked like it had been dipped in dark brown polyurethane varnish. its not perfect but at least you can see its made of wood now and doesn't stick to your hands.

Spent about half an hour tramming the cross feed on my mill/drill so I could do some slotting on the barrel wedges escutions.

Then buttered up a piece of square wood with 2 part epoxy to hold them in place

With some detail filing they are ready to inlet. Still some beautyfacation with the small files.

There’s still alot of work that needs to be done, but it was really nice to see how work has been completed. Today we measured the location of the rear site for my old eyes.

Ray was in the process of fitting the nose cap, before we went out to lunch.

Finished the gun will be .54 calibre, Flintlock, #3 maple stock, 33 inch barrel.

She looks beefy right now, a lot of wood still needs to come off, but she’s taking shape.
