What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Today I picked up an older poorly cared-for CVA Hawken-ish rifle. There is a pretty severe crack in the stock and some significant rust down the full length of the bore. Was it loaded? Well, it was at the pawn shop, so of course it was! The lock and furniture are in good shape though, and the exterior of the barrel isn’t too bad. I’m going to ask our local gunsmith if he can bore it to .56 smoothbore. If he can, I’ll repair the stock and clean it up. If he can’t, it might become a blanket gun.

Continued my work with a green scotchbrite pad in an old tc .54 percussion barrel I acquired some time ago but never shot. Appears someone in its past didn’t treat it well. Got it to the point of smooth with a tight patch but is frosty still. Might just have to run with it for now.

My first post to this thread. On 8/30/22 applied the second coat of permalyn sealer to my Kibler SMR and finished barrel prep for Jax black. This afternoon, 8/31/22, I plan on a third coat of permalyn sealer to the stock, applying Jax black to the barrel and rubbing back the color. I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and I am happy with everything so far. I will post pictures soon!

Made the decision that I need to do some serious downsizing and simplifying. Only gonna keep guns that I shoot, books that I need, etc.
For example, do I REALLY need 6 Lyman 55s?

I watched the Forum until I spilled coffee on my computer that ended that! I then went to our local Elks lodge to gripe and complain to my cohorts about my stupidity. To make matters worse my cell phone rang ,it was my wife she infotmed me that she took her hair dryer to it and now the machine was working fine? I had already tried evrything I could think of to fix it? Needless to say my wife is smarter than I!

sadly i find myself in the same condition. BUT, when i start laying them out to photo for selling, the DT's set in and they all end up back in the gun cabinet.
plus i always tell myself that no one will want what i have enough to break even, let alone profit.

Put the first coat of BLO on my GPR stock I’m refinishing. That’s some thirsty wood! First coat had nearly soaked all the way in on the fore end when I sat it aside to dry.

Nothing, that’s just some BLO. Well, I did spray the whole thing with flat black paint to fill the pores/grain and then sanded it back.

“Finished” the non period correct “belly bag”. Minus finial that arrives on Tuesday. Instead of using the correct wood block (I didn’t have the wood) I went with a bag type. I’d read that there were local made items for militias that some used a tin box. Not sure of truth but, since I’m only hunting with it, what the heck.
