Cast up a pile of Lee Flying Trashcans today. I'm planning to send some downrange tomorrow. (Bullet for a .44-40 next to the Minie at bottom to provide scale.)

Took the Colt Walker to the range today, but at 100 yards. Forgot to take my filler so just loaded 55gn Swiss 2f and a .457 ball. Sights were pretty much bang on so cracked on and rang steel from rest then had a go off hand. 4 out of 6 hit so I called it a day before we moved back to 200 and 300 yards. I was just a bit tempted to try 200 yards, maybe next time.👍

Every time you guys post these trash cans and minnies and maxies, I want to run out and buy a 1:48 rifle.

I've never owned one, but I like the idea that you can sling lead the size of your thumb down range.

And do it accurately.

What caliber did they make that mold for? I thaught that I saw one in .45

I am nowhere near close to finishing my Fowler kit so I was out with a unmentionable. My second son came out with me. We didn’t see anything! Didn’t even have anything gobble at us!

Lee used to make the Flying Trashcan for .58 but now it's only available for .50.

They do still make a couple Minie molds suitable for .58s that have a wide flat nose design, along with a traditional design that's closer to what was used in the 19th Century.

I am a happy camper, just finished running 75 rounds through my new to me 1858 pietta new model army. My home brew lubed felt wads worked beautifully. I didn't have any problems whatsoever with fouling or excessive oil buildup. Even my homemade primer caps went through it without any jams. Even found one ball.

Worked on cleaning up the Lyman Model 61 bottom pour pot. I freed the stuck shift. Seems there is a slight bend in it. Will tap it straight and reinstall. I think i need to drop a bit of lead in to mix with the sloppy looking metal in the bottom. Crank it up to 700 to see if I get a flow and then clean it out after I try to cast a couple ball.
