I endured the recoil of 3 dram to 4 dram 10 gauge loads for the 3rd day in a row to try to determine the best combination of components (cards, wads, cornmeal, skychief, etc.) for the best patterns with lead and bismuth for wingshooting with my Dixie Gun Works Pedersoli Waterfowl Magnum shotgun. Lots of choices between #8, #6, #4, and #2 lead, AND #7, #5, #3.5, #1, and #BB bismuth!!!!!!! I don't mind recoil, but after a couple hundred shots in 3 days with a steel buttplate I'm slightly sore. Good news is my replacement left lock tumbler is a-ok.

At least I know how the darn thing shoots at 20, 30, 40, and 50 yards now! I guess! Off to purchase good whiskey to ease my shoulder.

I tried out some dental wax sheets... not in a BP gun, but in something else... as prep work to see if I can replace felt wads in C&B and elsewheres with the little wax discs.

So far I am really happy with the wax sheets as a lube. At least in how I used it. Which unfortunately cannot be discussed here, even though I was shooting lead ball.

I'm curious, pm me with details please.

Per instructions from this wonderful site, I pinned the ramrod ends on my Santa Fe hawken and also one range rod.
3/32" drill through, chamfer each side of the hole, tap the common finish nail (6d I think .095") through, cut off each side barley past flush and peen ends into the chamfer. So easy you can do it in your underwear 😎

Try a wax cookie, bees wax, Crisco and olive oil mixed to a thick paste, lay a sheet of wax paper down put a wad of the wax on this lay a popsicle stick on each side of the wax ball, cover with a second sheet of wax paper use a rolling pin or large dowel rod roll out the wax paper compressing the lube between the wax paper sheets, to the thickness of the pop sickle sticks, then punch out your discs.

Is this mixture like picking up a candle?
These dental sheets were not only flexible, they were dry to the touch. You could easily carry a tin of them in hot weather without them sticking together. At least it was hot here today and the wax sheet was fine.

If they don't work out I'll ask you for the particulars (how much Crisco, how much bees wax....).

You need to adjust your bees wax; more bees wax stiffer product. Use them in both cap and ball revolvers and un-mentionable BP cartridges. The more bees wax you use the more temp tolerant they are.
