What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Cleaning up some old papers and old muzzleloading flyers from old encampments ad found my first copy of Duch Shoultz's "Black Powder Accuracy" papers. I ordered this so long ago that it was a paper copy. Verified that not much really had changed between 1986 and the 91 page version available today. Those were the dark ages for sure.

It's a little like muzzleloading. You use a round ball. 'Cept the balls aren't made of lead, and there's no barrel. Usually there's no smoke either, but when there is, it usually spells trouble. The striker sends the ball towards hollow rectangular targets. It'll never catch on ...

I did a little shooting with the new 1858 Remington Navy. Nothing to write home about…. Realized straight away I need to study up on how to properly adjust the sights.

Watched a couple of videos in that regard. Gonna study a bunch more before putting a file to anything.

Hard for me to be supportive of ANY team that "represents" the USA but doesn't show total respect to the flag, anthem or country. That also goes to our pro and semi pro sports teams!

Starting to reassemble my deer hunter after painting the black composite stock to look like wood grain. I also hardened the frizzen with cherry red. The stock has been drying for a week I do believe it's ready for reassembly. I am considering stripping off the black finish from the barrel I think it will go better with me wood grain stock. Plus it's worn off in places anyway. Hopefully this will be the year I finally get one with this gun. It has been quite the struggle LOL

Nice job with the paint. That looks amazing. I'm trying to wrap my head around a flintlock with a composite stock. Never heard of such.

Received a 45 cal. Muzzleloader with a Josh Golcher rear action lock. Bought on an auction site for $275.00. 38” barrel, machined octagon to round, deep rifling, not sure of twist. Only damage is to the heel of the stock, small piece chipped off and brass butt plate bent a bit. From what I know Josh was a lock maker in the Philadelphia area in the early to mid 1800’s. Appear to be proof marks on breech end of barrel, any help identifying would be appreciated. Ran jag and patches with various cleaners down barrel, found expected rust, but got it fairly cleaned. Plan on its first visit to the range tomorrow. Unless you guys see something I don’t, I believe this is an original firearm from the 1800’s.

That was a great buy!! Very nice piece!!
