I did that to my Pedersoli as well as a different trigger guard. Both from Dixie 28 years ago. Take the opportunity to drill and epoxy in a dowel in the the stock . I did not at first and it broke easily while loading. Wont break again but the damage is hard to deal with.
wow - very nice!

Taking a short shop break. Assembled the new carved Woodsrunner. Was nothing I could do to improve the fit! It was perfect. Put the screws in the nose cap and filed the tips smooth. Filed the double entry grooves on the butt plate to match the stock lines and started cleaning up all the casting flash. Finished the butt plate with a good polish. Started on the trigger guard, takes a while to get the seam line out. I hate seam lines. Took a couple of photos of the clean up and did a quick polish on the portion of the guard that was done for comparison.

Wifey and I got up before the chickens and made the 2 hour drive to the Muzzle Loader fair in Kempton, mainly to beat the heat and we did. Great show and great people.

Then did the required stop at Dixons, I just can't be in that area and not stop. When checking out at Dixons the young lady asked if she could see my ID ! That threw me for a moment, I thought she's carding me, do you need to be over 70 to buy muzzleloading stuff in PA now !! Hey you never know its Pennsylvania and yea I'm old.
She was doing her due diligence and checking ID against credit cards. Smart folks in this day and age.

Thanks,
O.R.

I did the same thing, went to dixon's after the fair. Must of had the same lady at checkout, she checked mine too, and here I thought she may have took a liking to me and was seeing where I lived... Oh well, that dream is shattered. LOL

I B Dumb. Sitting at my desk, I noticed a box, that I did not recognize, under an end table . Got it out; realized it was a Reb Navy Arms 1860 revolver. I had completely forgotten I bought it. Losing my mind? Took it out, waxed it nicely, and it is near perfect. Looks great, functions as it should, and I am happy to have a gun I did not know I have. Getting old is not all moonlight and roses. Dale 🦨
Dale, i had the same thing happen the other day, except it turned out to be a Walker Colt someone dropped off to be fixed. try as i might i couldn't remember it happening. called the guy that dropped it off 2 years ago and found out he has been dead for a year. I absolutely hate these golden years
the widow tried to pay me for the work done, i refused, and she told me to keep the gun. now i guess i will have to learn to shoot the thing.

the other day i was on here flapping my gums about trying anything at least once.
have been thinking of shooting conical out of my TC Hawken .45 flintlock just for S&G's.
All I could find in my mess in .45 cal was some hard cast 255g cast for my Long Colt.
why not? try anything once right? so i sat and lubed the things with bear grease/bees wax.
tested them for hardness and they came out at 16bnh.
punched out some felt over powder wads and lubed them with the same as above.
50g swiss fffg and swiss ffffg in the pan.
sights are TC vernier and globe front with circle insert.
first was with hard cast at 50 yards off bench.
second was after i cast some of same bullets that measured 9bhn. the 9's were easier to load but the 16's weren't bad once down the rifling with a short starter.
i think the deer are in trouble this fall!

Been down that same road with a tc capper and that identical bullet. Got the same results. It was just a whim though. It would be legal here for anything except elk or moose. Thought it would interesting for antelope but I don't expect to get a tag for one in quite a while.

I went out to the range and was very proud of my guns performance....not so much my shooting. The 1851 Navy has been a work in progress recently. Installed an action shield, new hammer and bolt, increased tension on the mainspring and replaced TOTW nipples with slixsprings. The gun went through 4 cylinders without a hiccup. Almost like shooting an unmentionable. I'm not much of a match shooter....I just look at the target and say, "yep, that guy is dead". Good enough. With the Hawken I was comparing using a damp ballistol patch vs Old Turkey Track. Both are good and at 50 yards I can't see any better than the shots indicate. 18 shots without swabbing between shots by loading the ball with a jag and a following patch. I let a fellow shooter at the range shoot my gun. He did good. First time shooting a ML. And distracted me enough to dryball the rifle. Easily taken care of by dropping a few grains of powder through the nipple hole and shooting it out. A good day.
