Great image, @ArmorerRoy! That quart pot looks like it's done some yards. You make me want to make a few of those tooth breakers for my next field excursion. I wonder if you could push a little dusting of ground salt onto those biscuits before you oven bake them.

Sometimes, I like to do a dry camp, no refrigeration or cool box. The makings I take consists of jerky and biltong, an assortment of dried and fresh fruit, sweet and savoury biscuits, dry hard cheese, plain chocolate, nuts, and the essential coffee and sugar. A bloke won't starve on this lot, and a return to simplicity does wonders.

Cheers, Pete

My kettle came from an antique shop in Vail Colorado in the 1990s. That area has a long history of mining and most of the antiques in the store were mining related. Itā€™s definitely seen some history.

There are numerous recipes for hard tack some of which include a few teaspoons of salt mixed into the dough with the water. Mine are white flour and water only. They taste like MRE crackers to me. I like them more than I thought would.

Sort of muzzleloading related: Wife and I lost our last cat on Dec 30th. 3 cats in 3 years. He was born in the barn, and we had him for 14 years. Great mouser and just a real good natured guy. We miss him.

Anyhow, the vet asked if we wanted paw prints, we did, and I put one on my shooting bag. I have one of the other cat's prints on a little medicine pouch I made, and the pouch has a little fur from each one in it along with some other things which mean nothing to anyone but me.

I wish I thought of that with my old cat, she was a caution. Her favorite critter to hunt was hawks, she killed quite a few of them, had her for 18 years before she went under

My condolences, we have our cat going on 15-17, not sure, vet says 15 but daughter says 17 years! Any way, his sugar is high and I'm giving him insulin shots, we thought he would be taking my arm off but he is really good about it!
Sorry to hear about your buddy, I know how it is!

Open the box of my new Woodsrunner, read all the material and promised myself I would finish two other projects I have going before getting into working on the rifle.

Ah, I admire your self discipline. Just yesterday I was going through the unfinished projects and plans list and it started to feel a little overwhelming šŸ˜… I've resolved to clear the clutter. Gradually, no more than three projects at a time. šŸ¤£

Too bloody cold up on this ridge. 30 Is not bad but constant 15 to 30 mph winds make doing much outdoors a labor NOT of love.
Brought in wood. Tended the old Lab and the cats. Prepared dinner. Working on the computer for my retirement gig. Neighbor cleared our lane with his John Deer full size 4wd. Lord bless him.
2-3 Days all the snow will be gone. Warmer with rain.
Youā€™re only a few miles north of me and this cold is brutal. Horrible. Be gone end of week they say.
Youll love retirement. I did 9/22. Wife 3 weeks ago. Loving life like you cant imagine. Every day is mine. I cant even explain it. Never been happier.Fortunately, we retired very well, planned ahead, very comfortable. Hope you did the same.

On my home from my short stay at the camp I stopped by a rural welding shop about 20 minutes from the house. They sell new steel, but keep a healthy scrap pile and I stop by once or twice a year to pick up odds and ends for projects. I wanted to add more steel targets to my shooting range and figured theyā€™d have something appropriate, and they did. I found a number of 1/4ā€ pieces and one of the guys even cut them for me. 8 new targets for $30 total.
