Got myself ready to take my .577cal Pritchett Volunteer rifle to the range tomorrow morning.....after making up some 60gr loads with the beautiful maple measure made for me by friend Grenadier on this forum. I hope to improve on this ten-shot group @50m, shot with the Service load of 2 1/2 drams - 68 and a bit grains of Swiss 2Fg.

Top is the ol' gal herself with a S*i*e* short rifle for comparison. As you can see, it is based on a much earlier design - the model of 1842 with its tenoned stock, rather than bands, and a hook breech, too. It is also a LOT slimmer in the wood, and weighs over a pound less, too. With the service load it was not very friendly to shoot....it is, however, a lovely piece to hold and it points like a good shotgun.

Ha ha she is (75 4 years younger than me ) in the Z3 with me no walking away. Off to a 60 th party She was moaning the Garmin was no good. Impatient , (We have some at the sailing club, called self opinionated ). I let her use her old iphone but she put the wrong school in, yes she knows best. Always the same. Married back in 1968. Seemed a good idea at the time , but 55 years. !!!!!!! This mornings it’s I must have a 4 th ***. No thanks had enough. So I bought another bit of pipe to cheat me up 1” OD. .5 bore 38

Things grow on you I have a 22pcp pump for garden range , then I bought a 177 pcp. BSA usles at 50 yards However seems the barrel took a long time to wear in now I love it. Holes through holes at 50 yards and up to 2” groups at 70 yards garden range. Best money spent.

yes got a few short 32” 625 bore rifled barrels And photos below of a rusty 27” .450 barrel , bit short but I did good riffling ( police took away my shotguns the other year, being old I might shoot intruders. But I can keep my wall hangers no chance of real a fire arms ). But I don’t need a police for BP guns in France just got to take a test to shoot almost simple

Sorry to ramble on but great to chat so many lovely people on this forum

they say french flints are better than English but it’s the same chalk hills. Keep meaning to raid the chalk only 20 miles from us. It’s difficult getting big chunks. But they fall down the chalk quarry at my mates shooting range in Norfolk 160 miles away. Love knapping and if I can get my act together I have a few friends that want some chips

Still waiting on my flintlock....in transit, next week looks like. My flints shipped today from Stonewall Creek. My Track of the Wolf order for new ramrod has been in Canada customs now since March 1st....
I just got a ramrod from them a couple of days ago.

Working on getting the bend out of the new ram rod I got from TOTW.
USPS shipping box broken in the middle, the stiff cardboard the rod was secured to also bent. A little heat and some weight in the middle may just cure the problem.

Maybe get the section that is bent wet first. Then apply some heat like you would if removing a dent from a stock. Then put some weight on it as it dries.

Yesterday I banged the muzzle of one of my MZ rifles and broke the end of the ramrod. Today I superglued t back on and clamped it in a small vise. It wasn't a ramrod I used and it was there because there is supposed to be one under the muzzle. It will go back on display mode.

You're thinking wooden rod. It's dark brown Delren "Nylon". A little heat to warm it up and with the rod suspended between two blocks should get the job done. Not THAT BAD and thinking it wouldn't really be a problem but just something to work on.

While I am watching paint dry I decided to take all the nicks out of the brass, this gun led a rough life and had really dinged up brass.

I have found an old chainsaw file works the best to remove deep scratches.

I follow the file with 220, 400, crocus cloth and bronze wool.

Next I use a Dremel buffing wheel and compound to polish things up.

I spent three years in the late 60s learning how to get the best results out of Brasso so I finish up with it. Once highly polished I found some more scratches I had to go back and start over with sandpaper to remove.

Done,

I only polish brass once on a build then let nature take it's course. It doesn't make much sense to put old dinged up brass on a like new stock with a new GM drop-in barrel.

Time to start chucking all the junk out for the scrappy man to take Just got a T shirt on warm sunny day London

Had a bad day. Now that some time has passed since my shoulder surgery, I can start building up strength to shoot next month, but only low recoil rifles. I did get permission to lift my six pound SMR to my shoulder and dry fire to start building up some strength. With the rifle to my shoulder, the sights looked strange. After several mountings to the shoulder, I noticed that the rear sight had moved way to the right. Even after a lot of pleading and insisting that there is no recoil from my 36 caliber rifle (25 grains of 3fg powder and a patched round ball), I can't get permission to verify sight position until much later. Well, it still felt good to put the little rifle to my shoulder.
My complete sympathy. My shoulder was replaced in December.

Completed a hinge for my Hawken patch box and finessed the door to fit the frame. The thumb piece at the top was a piece of scrap steel welded to a 3/8 dia rod so I could hold the work piece and grind it to shape.

Next challenge: a spring for the lid :ghostly:
