What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

When retired in 1997 I took up wood working using power tools in a basement wood shop. Two bed room sets, tables, chairs, numerous wood projects from reloading bench to gun cases, jewelry boxes and lathe work, if it can be run off on a table saw I’ve built it and I’d not be able to do a respectable job on the project
pictured here. That requires attention to detail and hand tool skills that I don’t think I have.
Hope you post the finished project.

Slings are nice , If you want the Rifle slung over shoulder when that Buck Jumps up and Takes off- I try to only use when Needed. Perhaps climbing or… Dragging . I will look into a universal Sling and keep that with me, for some of my rifles-when it’s needed.

Best to have rifle in hand.☝… When it’s needed.

finished inletting the barrel on the second stock of my flintlock pistol. upscrewed the first.
got the lock inlet. tomorrow i drill the rr hole and form the rr channel.
started creating an acorn on the butt cap finial to match the trigger guard.

Visited Brushy Creek in Lenox Ga for their spring shoot. Lots of shooters for the 5 day event, lots of room and full service. Met many new folks and saw several familiar faces from around the state.

When presented with such a knundrum, I'd advise building both. One in percussion and one a flinter.

Not sure if I have one that large. I had decided to try making some for myself and I ordered an assortment of antler tips from Etsy, I think, and they are all a bit small.

Make all my measures from the butt end of antlers so I have plenty of room for all sizes for powder and shot

I've been ready Baird's 15 years in the Hawken Lode. Just finished the new book by Woodfill from NMLRA.

I've switched to flintlock but still want a Hawken reproduction. Missed out recently on a Sante Fe by Western Arms.

my wife just saved a big 5”newt from the pool put it on a black bag to warm up and two crows came down and ripped it apart. I am trying to understand is there a story in this somehow for kids

Ps most of my machines here and I big workshop I got for nothing need to catch them before they go in a skip. Mind you it’s taken 50 years asking is it for scrap. “ yes yours if you want it”

These are my two Dixie Tennessee Mountain Rifles. Both guns have been re-barreled from their original calibres, with barrel lengths reduced to 36 inches.

The upper gun was .32 calibre and is now .45 calibre; the original lock honed, and tuned. The lower gun was .50 calibre, and is now .54 calibre; the original lock was replaced with a large Siler lock.

The .45 calibre shoots lights out…such an amazingly accurate rifle. The .54 calibre has yet to see the range.

I need to brown the barrel on the .54, do that this week.

took a break from building the pistol and shot the .45 Tennessee mountain.
it shoots. but it only had a 1/16th hole for a vent and i had misfires/flash in the pans. drilled and installed a coned liner. world of difference. the three shots that are off the 2 inch bull are pre sight adjustment. filed and drifted. 5 shots on the green.
now for a nap.
