What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I fixed my 32 cal rifle that my dad built for me when I was a kid. Thanks to this group, I was pointed in the right direction to fix the problem and had the courage to take everything apart and learn how it works. My dad would be so proud of me for fixing it myself. I can’t wait to share with his shooting buddies at the club this month.

I shot my Kibler.36 again this morning. Finally have decided on my load for hunting. 30 gns 3f, .015 pillow ticking with Frontiers bear lube. I’m very happy with this gun and how it shoots. Squirrel season starts Saturday!

Today I replaced a broken trigger spring in my Pietta ‘51 Navy repro. Dixie didn’t have a Pietta-made spring in stock, so I got one just generically marked “for reproduction 1851 Navy revolvers”. It was a drop in fit and it does function, but the action feels a little rough. Some light polishing may be in order, as well as a double-checking of all the contact surfaces. Nice to have the gun in working order again.

I got the shop cleaned and tools put away today after yesterdays shooting. Got all the guns (4) cleaned and put away last evening, but ran out of steam to do the rest.

inlet the trigger guard on my fowler. polished the trigger guard. have i mentioned i hate metal work?. still need to work on the side plate and think i will inlet a thumb piece too. still plenty of wood to add some carving too. maybe i can hunt it next yearonly the rr pipes left to attach. lots more thinning and shaping to do but it is starting to look like a fowler. at least with my eyes and walmart cheaters!

This evening I molded some .350 balls.

Did the trail walk at our local club again today. Just my self and my girlfriend. She outshot me, dropping only four targets in total with her Traditions .50 Hawken Woodsman percussion. I was shooting the halfstock percussion smooth bore 20g I built a few years back. Next time I’m taking my .50 Haines Late Lancaster perc conversion. Then she’ll get a run for her money!!
Both guns now cleaned and ready for next weekend.

Yesterday I stitched up a sheath for a knife. Today I cleaned, folded and flattened some roof boots and cast 30 pounds of ingots. 12, 2 pound muffin tin size and 12, 1/2 pound mini-muffin size. I don’t usually bother to make a special effort to cast ingots. My usual routine is to get a bunch of the scrap roof boots ready and fill the crucible. Once up to heat I skim off the manure and cast balls and/or conicals until I am tired of casting. Then I fill muffin tins with the rest. That way I build up a stock of cleaned and ready lead. Since I keep getting more scrap boots I may never actually cast any of my already processed lead!

Finally found a .480 gang mould. Poured a bunch of RB's in recent days...
Getting ready for next weekend at Friendship & a trip to Pennsylvania in a few weeks.
All of those RB's pictured will be lost by the end of this month.

Cleaned up and installed the trigger guard on this .45 pistol. Eight tedious hours... my least favorite part of any gun build.
It came out alright. Lots of stock work to do now.
