What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Yesterday 6 of us hunted with our flintlocks on my farm here in Pennsylvania and today we had to cut up 3 deer. Five of us are over 70 or will be 70 this year and the kid of the group, and new to flintlocks, is in his early 50's. Guess who did most of the dragging and driving.

This is just great!! Keep up the good work!! My dad just hit 70 and he still is in the woods with us! We are blessed!

Gave up on shimming my Lee 533 Minnie mold after making a mess. Ordered 540 improved Minnie mold. Why fight it? Had to support uncle Larry.

Townsville is located in the dry tropics of North Queensland and is usually referred to as 'Brownsville'. This year, we are having a particularly good wet season, making the conditions verdant, wet and lush. A big thanks has to go out to Scotty, one of our Range Officers, who volunteered today to head out into sticky wet conditions to open the range for a few keen shooters. I added some dimension to the low cloud by blowing some smoke from my .54 Pedersoli Tryon. Given the extreme humidity and dampness, I was pleased not to experience a single misfire. That moisture really gathered up around the nipple and hammer. Now, to cleaning.

Made powder measure for friend daughter. Throws.70 grains. Cut a bunch of patched and lubricated them for her. She has one of the first powder horns i made. Gal shoots a CVA bobcat muzzleloader. I may build a batter horn for her.

I made another powder measure throws 20 grains. I competed at the Tooele rendezvous last year. Since we were in town limit was 20 grains to shoot. I used my traditions.36 Shenandoah. I got my butt kick . Cut some felt for my ruger old army. I cut a bunch of over powder/shot wads from a navy double barrel 12 gauge muzzloading shotgun. Trying to decide what im take out fot bunnies tomorrow.

Old wood I'm there with you. I still hunt and hope to for many years to come. I'm 67 now arthritic, diabetic and heart attack survivor with 5 stents. Thankful to God am i! This past opening day 2022 of Indiana gun season it was cold and snowed. I shot a nice buck at about 830 a.m. my fingers were so cold and stiff I couldn't start field dressing. My son came up and field dressed and dragged my buck to the truck. He worries so much about me. I'm so grateful to have him as he is a purple heart recipient (roadside bomb Ramadi iraq) and father to my 2 granddaughters and chubby little grandson

I'm 67 with only the second of your listed maladies. Though stiff at times from all the vertebral damage from lifting bariatric patients(aka land whales). Feel your pain bro'.

Started filling the N-SSA shooting boxes. Time to start casting some Minie balls for the loads.

Two day gun show in Hannibal, Mo. saw me selling stuff I saved for the kids they don't want. Projects I'll never finish, antique shotshells & boxes, odds & ends - off to folks who will hopefully enjoy them. Goal was to come home with less than I took. Then this guy walked in with a T/C Seneca ....$250. So, well, maybe one more M/L rifle won't hurt. What looks like birds-eye maple isn't. Some sort of artificial plastic-feeling coating that honestly looks like wood and is artfully applied. Brass highly polished. From ten feet, it's a stunner. Been re-blued. Bore is ..meh.

So....the only other choices at the show were stupidly high-priced ratty originals with broken parts, missing parts, cracked stocks, etc. or equally outrageously high-priced reproductions. At least this little gun will be fun to shoot and very easy to carry. Why some gun show people price guns at more than double what they're worth ..dunno, but they surely do it frequently.

So....the only other choices at the show were stupidly high-priced ratty originals with broken parts, missing parts, cracked stocks, etc. or equally outrageously high-priced reproductions. At least this little gun will be fun to shoot and very easy to carry. Why some gun show people price guns at more than double what they're worth ..dunno, but they surely do it frequently.

Saw the 3 rings + trigger guard w/trigger for an 1842 .69 musket go for $710.

I just do not go to the big gun shows any more. Too much junk and I have yet to find any kind of jerky that I care for. Plus the mens' room always seems to be in the next county.

I do like small shows run by local clubs. Have found nice, desirable guns at reasonable prices. And oftimes the ladies put out really good home cooked food.

I spent part of the day searching the internet for design ideas and plans for my next shop project, a buffalo hide shooting bag. I also searched for a source of the nice cotton straps I see on other’s bags.

Preparing for a late season squirrel hunt before the end of the month. I hope to take my new SMR 32 on its first hunt. I’ve been buying shooting and cleaning supplies as I can find and afford them. I will inventory my stuff and see where I stand with, but I think I’m ready.

Gun shows, be they front stuffed guns or rear stuffed guns, are horrible these days. Been so for the past decade.

Going to an exhibit is a great way to spend an afternoon. But not a rip off artist convention.

And if I'm really jonesing for beef jerky and tube socks, Amazon is just a few clicks away.

and the response, "Yeah, the prices are up because they're gonna BAN'em!" all the while I'm thinking the adage of 'a fool and his money'.
then there was this stolen valor 450# SEAL impersonator that said he was in the MeeeeeKOnnng Delta and got the Purple Heart twice posthumously. To which I replied, "That's Biblical" and walked off.

Worked on building a shot load for my percussion Hawken. With #11 magnum caps about ss rare as a purple unicorn I’ve had to switch to standard #11 caps and use real black powder. No more Pyrodex for my Hawken any more.
