Shoveled off my shooting bench.
I need to bench rest that Indian Trade musket so I know where we stand. This time I'm going to try a small lubed patched (1-1/4") and a lubed felt wad on top of the ball.

Hopefully it dries up some before next snow fall.

Did some more load development on the new SMR. Had to cut the session short because loading a ball it didn’t seat as far as it should have so I had to go home and pull it. Everything was fine, don’t know why it wouldn’t seat, maybe crud from not swabbing after each shot? Any suggestions! Managed these three shot groups so next time 50 yards.

Haven’t had any loading problems in my .45 SMR using .440 balls. I use .015 patches. I’ve fired up 9 rounds without swabbing, and could have shot more. Hope you don’t find that a long term problem.

@Gordoncourtney

Malicious misinformer troll?! Me? How so? Red flag? Like a real visible red flag, or a feeling you got? On somebody's radar? Why?

Kinda confusing message, at least confusing to me.

Did a search on the title of the poem and it came up as Kipling's. Didn't follow up and further than that as it didn't seem important.

Never been called a troll before. I guess maybe I should be honored?
I always thought a troll was anyone from South of Michigan's upper Peninsula😁😂😃😄😀

First few times I shot I used pre-lubed patches and needed to swab after every shot. This time I used my own bees wax and olive oil lube and it worked much better, no problem loading without swabbing between shots. Next time I shoot I’ll try swabbing after every three shot group.

Working on the “Woodsrunner” a little each day. Have it totally together just been polishing brass and steel

Ordered a lock and mainspring vise for the flintlock pistol build - also might scratch the first stock as my errors compound.

Today I ran down to my new hunt/fish/ocean property. Installed a new window, cut firewood and put up a new steel target.

I thought I was pretty snazzy going 2 for 2 but of course I spent seven shots to hit the smallest target offhand from about 35-40 yards. Mike Brooks 40cal SMR. She’s a honey!

Great to have a place to get away to @Fisherking.

The long term plan is to build two houses; one to AirB&B and one for my kids. This is just a place to hang my hat while saving the money to build.

I love being able to shoot though. It’s a high school dream come true. I spent forty years commuting an hour and a half down here on the weekends to drift the river, hunt the area just north and clam, crab and fish the ocean which is one mile away. Fall salmon is spectacular, as are mushrooms and grouse. Lots of bears but the deer and elk are a tenth of what it was back then. I still hunt just as hard but it is mere happenstance now. The beauty is not commuting anymore!

It’s a beautiful place. I certainly enjoy the solitude and peace of my land. It was a long time dream of mine too.
