Finally was able to shoot my new to me CVA Mnt pistol with serial # 000067. I am tickled. First three shots at about 20 yds hit a taco bell sauce packet, all touching. Need s spring, weak and some caps didnt fire (could be the caps, they were "in the truck" so maybe 1980 era LOL). DEAD nuts accurate just like my old one. 20 gr T7 2f out the door of the truck. Recovered one ball I shot through a piece of firewood at a camp I shot at. This was a pine log about 2 1/2 " thick. One some real outdoors folks bought for $7.99 at Circle K so the could go to the woods and have a fire. WOKE most likley as they never considered picking up the free wood in the woods. Being thrifty I took all the wood they left LOL.

Also took my new to me 1851 (or 49) sherrif model .36 5 shot revolver bought here too. Again, I belive it needs a spring and I know it neess some work on the wedge as it bound up if not just in the right place. Guns been shot but I had to have it. VERY fun little shooter, pleased with the group. After today I am really considering selling it as is and another 1849 .31 (same frame size) as a set and buying a new .36. LOVE the caliber. I was firing 20 gr Pyrodex P. Shhots about 8-10" high at 20 ds though as most do, it's an older Uberti. 1849 is a Armisport I beleive.

I cleaned the garage some when I got home and then took my best frind to the dog park.

Spent another lovely morning at the range. I continued my playing with paper patched minies again, this time with the Parker Hale 1858 Two Band. Just for fun, I ran two targets to compare a paper patched 500gn Lyman minie against a lubed 500gn Lyman minie. Once again, in this rifled musket, the paper patched minie came out in front. I used the same point of aim for both targets at six o'clock on the red circle, surprised in the change of impact. Great fun? Yes :). How this type of musket was meant to be used? Oh nope. ;)

May be a bit of a drought for the next week as the range is closed to run the State Lever Action Silhouette Match . . .

Cheers, Pete

started putting hardware on my carbine. slipped while tightening the lock plate screw and gouged the side plate. wife says my mouth will keep me out of heaven.
walked away from the carbine and poured a nose cap with tail on my 1857 shotgun. turned out pretty good . still filing and sanding.
somehow got the dam situated to allow the pewter to go past the radius of the barrel.
thought i would leave it as i never expect to remove the barrel again.
i need to replenish my pewter. i melted down a pewter coffee server that was broken. wonder how that happened?:dunno:

Next time I order lead from Roto Metals I’m going to order a chunk of pewter @deerstalkert. I have never fooled with it before, but I want to try pouring bolsters.
i go onto their sight fully intending to buy a couple pounds. get it into my cart and choke. seems like a lot of money for a pound .
been living with a Scots woman too long i guess.
i lurk about in thrift stores and buy whatever they have in pewter, cast it into ingots and stamp them so i won't cast Round balls with it.

I don’t get out much, just hang out in the woods. But you’re right, it is pricey there. My Wife and I do go to antique shops occasionally, we’re about due to go again, maybe I’ll look for some then.

Yesterday I spent 3 hours at our club working up a load for my .45 CVA Mountain Rifle. In the middle of that I fired one 10 round magazine from my unmentionable carry pistol. Afterwards I had a funny thought that I probably spent more on those 10 rounds than I did shooting my muzzleloader for 3 hours Ha!
Depending on how well you placed your ten shots you may want to spend more than that.
