What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Thanks guys. Anything is worth a try to get the balls shooting the same. So far the only consistent shot has been the first one after a thorough cleaning. Then, even though it might be grouping well, the group will move. I even marked my sights to make sure they were not moving.
Of course, when hunting it's the first shot that counts

70gr Goex 3F and a .490 ball.
The first shot I can use a .015~ patch, but it really prefers .010. It fouls fast and needs constant swabbing.
I'm not looking for much, just three nice shots in a row starting with the first one after cleaning.

My 1980's TC Hawken likes a .490 RB with .010 patch and 70g Goex 3F. I lube my patches with lard. It shoots great for 3-5 shots before needing a wipe with a TC 17 cleaning patch (the ones that look blue) followed by a dry patch.

I would use only the .015 patch. My 45 had to be wiped after each shot

Try "lubing/wetting" your patches with a 50/50 mix of Dawn/water. Use sparingly.

Ever since Everything Black Powder posted that video and someone mentioned it a week ago, it seems everyone here is using it now, lol.
Never saw a mention of it before in my time here. Not even in lube specific threads.

That's not saying I didn't pick up a small bottle of Dawn while I was at the store today though

That is a 12mm Gedore (German made). Very good quality and will cut a wad that gives a pretty tight fit in .44 cal. revolver cylinders. Maybe too tight for some but I like it and have had good results with wads in all my .44's.

Getting it nailed down now. Its definitely showing potential.

Received a 45 cal. Muzzleloader with a Josh Golcher rear action lock. Bought on an auction site for $275.00. 38” barrel, machined octagon to round, deep rifling, not sure of twist. Only damage is to the heel of the stock, small piece chipped off and brass butt plate bent a bit. From what I know Josh was a lock maker in the Philadelphia area in the early to mid 1800’s. Appear to be proof marks on breech end of barrel, any help identifying would be appreciated. Ran jag and patches with various cleaners down barrel, found expected rust, but got it fairly cleaned. Plan on its first visit to the range tomorrow. Unless you guys see something I don’t, I believe this is an original firearm from the 1800’s.

I finally got the bore scope down my new Pedersoli Percussion Trade Rifle.
I tried to snag or knock off this piece of metal with a jag, but no go. Maybe I'll have access to it when I take the barrel off. I'm not familiar with percussion hooked breeches.

How far down the barrel is that piece of whatever? Looks like a Monopoly game piece...

Oh, and all ya gots to do is pop out the pin in the forearm and lift up on the barrel... it should come right off.

And make sure the ramrod is out first!
