Pretty snazzy shooting @Flint. I see lots of talk about this card splitting shot. What is the usual distance the cards are placed at?

It's only 10 yards or less, but if you can see the card, you're not going to split it. Like I did (or didn't)...I'll have to use my .58 caliber next time.

Hi @Swagman! For those targets, my comp rifle, a Pedersoli Tryon: 54 Calibre, 70gns ffg Wano, same volume overthrow of semolina, .530 round ball, .018 pillow ticking spit patch . There's a picture of the rifle and those details in the previous post.

That 80gn load sure is fine @Swagman. It's an accurate load in my rifle too - sometimes I bump the load up to that for hunting. In comp, the 70gn loading is less fatiguing over a match of 39 shots.

spent the day carving on a practice piece of walnut. today was the third rendition of the same pattern. only carving i have ever done was a curvy torso while on guard duty one night a hundred years ago it seems like. one more effort and i may transfer it to the walnut stocked Kentucky I am working on.

while not considered muzzle loading stuff I spent time on the tractor cutting the trails around our food plot as a shooting lane other wise we wouldn't be able to see the deer it has to be a good sized deer to be able to see it in the beans still have 10-12 hours to go for the rest of the trails bear opens up Sept 1st

Shot my kit build .50 cal. 1976 percussion CVA Mountain rifle that i converted to 20 gauge smoothbore flintlock rifle. GREAT shooter! Trying to smooth out my “not so pro” barrel drilling and bring it to hit where i aim. Better results today with 75 grns 3f under a thickly-tight .610 ball heavily greased with Mink Oil and Frog Lube. It seems the word is “Tighter is better”.

Right question Why mountain rifle? I just won a 1845 percussion mountain carbine , with a 23” barrel at holts uk auction, and it was described as a 30bore mountain carbine, it’s just out of interest , I mean I could be a short Jager as it was made in Germany.

Most often, designing the artwork is the hardest part. This took hours (and it will probably change!)

I prefer more scenes of adventure where in the 1700s people scratched the map of their trek into the wilderness or fought in a battle , so much history you have. You may recall I sent some historical horn maps and designs from Holts San Francisco Auction . Some $39,000 I can send them again

However some of your horns are beautifully done, so please do whatever makes you happy

Put the last coat of wax on an NOS CVA Big Bore Mtn Rifle in .54. Looks great but still need to finish ramrod, then I'll post some pics.

Did some shooting today comparing goex and swiss, 2f and 3f to see what I want for dear hunting this year. Some things that surprised me were 50gr 3f swiss was faster than 65gr 2f goex, the 60gr swiss 3f didn't print that much higher going 141 fps faster than the 50gr swiss 3f, where the goex going 103fps and 5 gr printed 1.5 inches higher. My biggest surprise, only 1 slight flier in 20 shots on the 60gr swiss 3f and no misfires for any reason. No swabbing between shots, no picking or wiping the pan. Believe it or not there are 10 shots on each target that were shot round robin, meaning 1 shot of each powder charge then repeat 4 times. So what do you think I should use for deer hunting? It was windy, but it's only 25 yds. Grandson keep the note only 12 but trying to get him involved.
