What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I’ve noticed that the set trigger on my SMR is a bit tight in its physical curled shape. The tension seems okay, but I will eventually want to straighten it just a little so it doesn’t pinch my finger so much. And I have average hands that aren’t chubby at all. The trigger radius seems awful small.

I did end up filing it and bending it some, much more comfortable!

So far today I I've coned another barrel. This one is my TC 45 barrel that has done very well in local matches. I'm coning it enough to make it easier to start a tight combo. This gun has never cut patches but I did do the old thumb round off trick after coning.

I also am trying a mod to the sights. I outlined the rear sight the same way. Too bright??? I have a lot of acrylic paints so maybe a continuing experiment.

I find by filing a 45 degree angle on the tip of the sight, and leaving it bright, gives me best target acquisition.

Today , I've tinkered a bullet starter/seater from some brass and steel for a 1851 Swiss Feldstutzer , which not only should deliver an absolutely concentric patched bullet , but also calibrates the bullet by pressing through :



And this is how such an original , vintage starter looked like :

My brother used a whitish glow in the dark paint on his front sight. In the evening it gives him 10-15 min more in the woods.

i just use Hi-Viz with the replaceable lite pipes the green gives me at least a additional 30 minutes both morning and night I can see the hi-viz long after I can't see the cross hairs in my scope on my inline

Last evening at the gun club hot dog roast I showed off the Kibler Fowler. Even in the box, people were saying it looked great. However, the modern shotgunning folks who consistently razz me about my Black Powder ways were not there. Well, they missed out on Chicago-style hot dog fixin's as well as seeing a real gun.

Today, I finally regained my ability to post photos, thanks to my computer savvy daughter, following the crash I had of the hard drive earlier in the year. I had taken some photos of the Woodsrunner carving I did on that gun last year - my first efforts, but I did not post at the time a photo of the carving behind the tang. Now I can, and here it is.

Ordered a replacement front trigger for my SMR that I filed incorrectly. Having a bit of analysis paralysis trying to figure out how the double set mechanism works, brain is super foggy today. Meh.

After replacing ball joints on my truck, I tapered a dowel and twisted up a couple tow worms.
I've discovered that a tapered dowel makes for a lot better worm than one that is parallel.
I used the wire from utility flag markers as it is somewhat hardend and gives sufficient spring to grab and hold on the ramrod.

Absentmindedly began filing on my SMR trigger to get some slop in the front trigger... Was filing on the front trigger bar by mistake... Now it won't go off just pulling the front trigger, set only. I'm a big ol dummy. Jim is probably tired of my emails by now 😬

ugh I know the feeling about working on my cap pistols and cap rifles. 🙄 I've decided to only use a paper towel soaked with Ballston. hahaha. dang I ain't to bright at working on them. willing to learn that's why I'm on here. some very smart guys on here

Its private purchase , embellished a bit, And a half cocktail on tumbler. No half cock on a military one , 1953. Must write to owner on label Enjoy
