What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

What I did yesterday and several days ago. Haven't scrimshawed name in it yet, or added a strap.

Got myself a nice piece of curly maple from Woodcraft to try out various stains and finishes for my Kibler SMR recently ordered. $15 for that little piece, can you imagine? But it's got nice figuring and can be cut into quarters which will provide eight different variations of stain and finish. Should be overkill.

I suppose you could call that "muzzle loading stuff I did today" though no muzzleloaders were directly involved. Yet.

About ready to reassemble the lock for my Colonial that I've revived after that shipping mishap. Brazed screws into old holes and drilled new ones, so had to redo the rusting and had a hell of a time getting the browning to even out. I think I got the plate matched good enough to be happy with finally. It's a little bit rougher than the cock but that's fine by me.

It was a balmy 25 degrees and snow flurries here in our part of the wilderness this morning. ‘Twas a good morning to pour a few .600 caliber round balls.

My blacksmith shop is outside under a shed roof. The fire felt good.

Melted down almost 30lbs of scrap lead into 4oz ingots to clean out some impurities and to make it easier when I'm actually casting roundballs. It took awhile but with all the snow we have, I couldn't do much else.

Wow. What an experience! Gorgeous furnace: great heat element, excellent insulation surround, adjustable wind deflector, good melt capacity and ventilation - good for the soul. What more can a boy want? Oh, and the smell of that fire too. My little Lyman pot pales in comparison. Wonderful @Banjoman!

It was a cold frosty morning in central Kentucky! Clear and crisp with a beautiful sunrise! I walked out my back door into the fields and woods! Frozen dirt crunched under my feet as I tried to quietly walk through the woods in pursuit of small game! First time in the woods with my PA Fowler that was recently completed by fellow member Jack!
It was a good morning!!

Put that gun to quick use! Looking all smiles, too

I dropped a flintlock pistol off for repair to my local muzzleloading shop back in late October and was told to check back after Thanksgiving. Went in today and see it hasnt been touched.
