I dont know the girl in the picture, however there are some very good machinist on the trap line that do take a modern trap gun and convert them to a ML.

I would bet on it that it is a ML.

They do have a area for 4-H kids to come and shoot .22 rifles. It is a area just for them. It is a great way for the younger kids to be introduced to shooting. They and their parents wander around and are exposed to ML shooting as well.

I and others on the shooting line if we are not shooting a match will let folks that stop and talk to us to shoot our rifles. People love hearing the ringing of the mini creedmore target at 500 yards when they hit it.

I just got home from Friendship and it was a wonderful time of seeing old friends.

My son even won a flintlock at the banquet Sunday night.

Howdy smo :hatsoff: ....

....two events guaranteeing rains every year, the Cloverdale National Traditional Archery Shoot, and Spring Nationals at Friendship! Guaranteed.

Best regards, Skychief.

In January of 2013, I received a catastrophic injury that left me a partial paraplegic and confined me to a wheel chair. So the NMLRA is no longer a benefit for me. Muzzleblasts is not worth $40.00 per year, to me...”¦”¦..robin :idunno: :hmm:

Simple as that.

Why are you or aren't you a member of the National Muzzleloading Rifle Association?

Thanks, Skychief.

I started not to respond since this has been posted before and always ends up with some very negative responses about the NMLRA.

In the 80’s I shot with the Pasadena Muzzle Loaders in Pasadena, TX. One of the member’s would bring his old Muzzle Blasts and leave them for folks who wanted them. I always enjoyed reading them then and still do.

The Club would hold a Territorial and to shoot in it, you had to be a member of the NMLRA, thus I became a member. I kept paying my dues even after the Territorial was dropped in Texas because of I enjoy reading the magazine There are articles I have no interest in so I do not read them, just as I do with my fly fishing magazines and other magazines.

To shoot in Phoenix or Friendship you have to be a member and my goal was to go to both and I have been.

I shot in Phoenix for 10 years, had really nice times and met some fine folks, same for going to Friendship.

For those who say they do not belong to the NMLRA because Friendship is too far to go to, I have one question?

If you are a member of the NRA do you go to the NRA Whittington Range in New Mexico? If not, how come?

One of my rules is that I do not spend my money and be miserable, and I am not miserable with the NMLRA.

NRA Life Member since 1973, but even when I was stationed in California, I never made it to the Whittington Range. I had PLENTY of NRA shooting events in Southern California and Nevada to attend.

I really had to think whether I would renew my membership with NMLRA last month. Several months ago I read the hunting article in Muzzle Blasts and one of the first things the author said was he had no interest in traditional guns as he only wanted to be able to hunt more. I went back and read the mission statement and it seemed this went against what the mission statement said. I had quit the NMLRA back in the mid 90s because of the direction the NMLRA was going with inlines. Then about 10 years ago I read a new Muzzle Blasts and they seem to have come back the where they used to be. This seems to be a cycle with them.

So, I went ahead and signed on for another year to see where they go. $40 is $3.33 a month for a year, a beer cost more than that and if you smoke a pack of cancer sticks is twice that amount. A burger at Burger King is even more than the cost per month of belonging to the NMLRA. Now I'm not rich but the cost of the membership is no issue. I understand if someone doesn't want to belong, that's fine, your choice and I don't really think you need to justify why you don't want to belong. My own opinion is that they are about the only voice for muzzle loading so I'm good with supporting them for now. If they keep going in the direction of inlines, then I'll have to re-evaluate my membership.

$40 is not for a magazine, the magazine is a benefit of membership.

Anyway, just my thoughts.

There is an answer to your concerns. If folks would send in "side lock" hunting articles, he might find himself in need find of new employment.

I know each month of the rifle in the picture and the animal of which he is writing about.

I skip him and go directly to the Bevel Brothers.

Richard,
I too skip the hunting articles.

I wrote a letter to the editor stating the mission statement and the platform and how in my opinion do not represent what an inline will bring to the table. My letter was edited a bit. But I'll give them one more year and see where we're at.

I think many people think that once a non-traditional shooter sees the real thing they will convert, some may but I think the author of the hunting articles pretty much said what most non-traditionalists will say, just more time to shoot a deer. I don't think many will convert to traditional, but that's just my thought.

"I don't think many will convert to traditional, but that's just my thought."

I agree totally.

With the NMLRA dropping the Western shoot that only leaves me Friendship to shoot line pistol matches and there is only one pistol agg. in Texas for me to shoot in the future.

Going to Friendship in Sept as I enjoy it and the people. Even if I cannot go to Friendship after this year I will retain my membership.

Hmmm.. I didnt know that. I guess its a good thing I never made the shoot up at Ben Avery; I'd have been ****** if they told me I had to fork over $40 to join in order to then pay an entry fee to get to shoot there.

Like I said before, for me its always been economics. I am not rich, I'm not even middle class. According to the numbers I'm pert near dirt floor poor;(and I can attest they ain't lying). You tell me I have to join your exclusive club to shoot with you at some match and I damn sure am leaving never to return. Especially if I had to drive in from somewhere out of the area!

Still too bad I didn't get up there while they had them. I wanted to go for the vendors I could get some good supplies from.

Flip side, I've gone to exactly one shoot with a local club that does a monthly get together. In the summer they move it up on the rim, and I cant get out that far so I don't get to go till winter arrives again but I will when I can. They were all very friendly, and not one cared that I was just a guest and not a member.

Guess which club will get my $$ when I can squeeze it out of my budget?

If you guessed the one that made me feel welcomed you'd be right..

I rejoined the NMLRA and I'm a life member of the NRA since December...., not planning on going to either range. Doesn't mean I won't in the future....

Yeah I was reading this year's back issues of Muzzle Blasts on line and that article sparked up a heated discussion about non-traditional muzzle loaders and the mission statement of the organization. I wonder if the NMLRA will hold fast, or if they will "Scout-out"?

Back when I was younger I was heavily involved in a lot of archery and hunting related causes. I ran archery clubs and hunting clubs for at least 20 years; the bottom line; I burned out.

Bingo...same for me. Officer of our State Bowhunting organization, Field representative for a National Hunting/Trapping/Fishing organization, Field Captain for my local archery club. Shot archery tournaments like a madman for well over a decade. Suddenly, none of it was fun anymore.

Now, not saying that's a legit reason for not financially supporting some worthwhile organizations, but it does temper my desire to join more of them.

I still financially support the US Sportsman's Alliance (which along with Safari Club is probably the most successful pro-hunting/trapping/fishing organization in Washington DC and the courts around the country). I also support the NRA. While I don't shoot that much anymore, I still belong to my local archery club and am a life member of Minnesota and Iowa Bowhunters state organizations. I figure I'm doing enough.

I am a member of The NMLRA because I want to support those who support my sport. I am a member of the NRA because it is required by my Gun Club. I do not like the NRA as an organization, they are mostly concerned with lining their own pockets.

I'm not entirely sure the NMLRA is the best voice of our sport, but I'm not sure what other source is. The NRA has a huge financial commitment. They represent us and it costs money. A lot of money. NO ONE ever mentions NMLRA in political discussions as antis or like. Like Bernie Sanders who declared NRA as a prime enemy. I don't know if this is because the NMLRA has minimal influence, but I suspect it does. I'm a life member of the NRA, in full disclosure. I don't always agree with them, but they don't minimize my core values. Neither does the NMLA, but I fundamentally disagree with their support of in-lines. Go figure.

Yeah the NRA finally got my address right.
The NMLRA got it right the first time..., but they are a lot smaller in membership.
The NRA sent me my life membership packet, AND a ton of patches and sitckers and decals..., I guess they thought it made up for 6-month of incorrect addresses.

I put my life member sticker on the back of one of my cars in the window..., I wonder how long before some schmuck damages my car? On the other hand..., if I'm lucky, I will catch the yutz, and I have arrest powers in my state

In my neck of the woods, any kind of NRA or hunting related sticker on the back window of your vehicle is Like a neon sign to all the thieves who see it, and it screams that you have guns, and there is always the possiblility that they will follow you home and mark your house as a target for later use.

Amen! That's true in ANY neck of the woods. Same goes for camera stickers or anything else that looks like MONEY!!!!! to thieves on the search for fat victims. A bud was all proud of his Nikon gear and had a sticker in his window, so proud of it that he got to replace it three times after break-ins to his car and house. Removed the sticker and hasn't had a single nuther excuse to replace his cameras.
