Yes I understand because I have gone through this before and called some unsavoury names . I was born the beginning of the war for which the UK took a pounding and some good men from all dominations died on the battle field and at home some thing we should never forget

Gentlemen,
I am well aware of WW2 since I was eleven years old when Pearl Harbor Unfortunately we remember more wars the US and UK fought than anyone should have to remember.

Eleven men of my family served through WW1 - only one died - my maternal g'father. Seven served in WW2 - all came home. I served for thirty three-years all but ten days, and my wife was a nurse in the Royal Air Force - my brother was a radar tech in the Royal Air Force. We all do what we think is owed.

Well my father being a pre war Terrier went all through WW 2 as R H A inc El Alamain & D day but my name sake Maurice went down on HMS' Penelope 'Same year I was born . Its the price of freedom now whittled away at year by year by Nanny states and useless polititions .

Gentlemen,
Thank you all for your service. I "stood on the wall" for seven years and lost some friends which gives me some idea of where you are coming from.

Now

Back on track.
I do not shoot the few originals in my collection simply because if something breaks there is no
"24 hour antique firearm parts store" open around here at least in this part of Texas.
Perhaps in UK you are lucky enough to still have skilled craftsmen that can and will do a fix. But the history of the firearm is somewhat diminished. At least that is my thought.
If my reproduction breaks, VTI Parts most likely will have the piece to fix and all is well.
It is now a fixed reproduction and nothing is lost.
Example of this is I shot my Green River plains rifle yesterday afternoon and had one of the ram rod thimbles fall off.
A few words regarding a deity and a water retention structure followed (family friendly).
Tomorrows projecet will be soldering it back on and no harm done.
Endeavor to Persevere

Don't rag on me ask Dunks he started this whole thing.
And stop jerking the chain of shooters in UK they have enough problems without us Colonists chiming in.
I think my explanation is clear and simple.. Reproductions are just that new "old" guns with no history.
My few old muzzle loading originals that go back to a tube lock not terribly valuable but
are too rare to take a chance in breaking something.
And like I said the "old original firearms parts store" is nowhere to be seen.
So let us put and end to this insoluble problem and let us all just enjoy shooting guns that are expensive, I will grant you, but also are not irreplaceable.
Respectfully

OK good folk as WB says ,I started it as a newcomer to muzzle loading. It did get a bit off track as most serious posts do but I thank you all I am satisfied as to why you guys shoot repro guns. Stay safe and have a lovely Christmas all. Dunks from the UK.

Sure thing, so back to my Beretta, would the 300th anniversary shot gun be a repro?

I don't know if it's a repro of any particular historical gun, but it's definitely made in the style of a 19th century gun. Technically (I guess) a repro would be an exact or at least close replica of an historical example; however, we often use the term "repro" more loosely and just mean a modern gun that is made in the general style of historical guns. 🤔

I don't read Feltwads comments anymore. I hit the ignore button months ago and do you know...life improved!
What the person forgets is that Britain's hunted out the wolf, bear, lynx something like a thousand years ago!
In our house we call it " the tea pot calling the kettle black".

Now I don't give a flying fig when it was made but if everything goes in the front end and its mechanism is on its side and it belches smoke I know it will make me smile and I sincerely hope that the day I insert a pole up my jacksie and start spouting snobbish comments and sass that someone wraps a barrel around tha back of my head....repro or original!

Them Eyetalian guys who came here for a while - 44AD - 420AD - actually killed all the bears. :(

I mean, c'mon, guys, what does it take to kill one of these?

. That is an unmentionable unless Beretta is making copies of it's 300 year old fire lock then that's OK.

Do some research before you type, the Beretta is an over under cap lock. We talk about them occasionally here.
