I just sent payment for a 12.5" lop traditions deerhunter percussion in .50. I believe he is going to love it. This means that we will have to spend time building a gun rack for his room and all the accoutrements. I love spending that kind of time, and watching him learn. Kids are like sponges at this age.

Has anyone had a kid that was nuts about this stuff in their pre-teen years, and then decide they really don't like the shooting sports when they get in to their late teens?

Or, am I the only one this has ever happened to?

My daughter is 21. She was my first son and did well for herself with both rifle and scattergun. She still enjoys hunting and shooting, she is just a bullhead like her dad and works too much now.

She's got icewater in her veins when it comes to shooting game.

My 9 year old boy seems to take to anything I show him. He does really well with rimfire, but I would like to show him the methods of bp. His new rifle should be here within a couple weeks. Yup, he already wants a horn, tomahawk, you name it. He even mentioned a **** skin cap! The best part is that I've been getting pics of a large raccoon behind the house on a trail cam.

He is my second childhood, only better.

Mines soon to be 21 and Yes since 17 he's fallen off.
He has not claimed he's lost interest in shooting sports,, he's just moved on to a different phase of his life.
Different short term goals,
Different peer's,(Girl)
Job, Apt, and well just "Life", :idunno:

I don't think he's lost to it all. I just think back to myself at that age, there are a lot of path's to explore when one is finding himself.
I just let'im be.

I'm going through the exact same thing myself, only with a 24 yr. old college graduate now living & working about 2 hours from home. He's got a good job as a Mechanical Engineer, and when he visits he still goes with me to the range to get some smoke on his face. He has all of his own equipment, but no desire to shoot & clean it in an apartment setting. His rifles & shotgun are hanging up on a gun rack in his dining room. One of these days I'm going to take him shooting near his apartment and come back to his place and show him how to clean his gun again. Maybe that will do it?

I am really blessed that we developed such a bond through the shooting sports. I won't "push" him either. New car, girlfriend there with him (no ring yet, but it's coming), etc., so he has a lot of distractions. I remember when I was his age. All I wanted was, well, you KNOW, lol, so I can't complain much.

May we both continue to be blessed with our son's time & attention.

Dave
