    TC hawken newbie

Since Roundball hasn't shown up yet, I'll fill in for him. Here's what he said I should do: Roundball sez: He also mentioned on another thread that they are very busy now with the upcoming hunting seasons and that there is a possibility that it would not be done in time for this year's...

Hello, and a Twist Rate Question

That 1:47 twist would shoot both the conicals and the roundballs. The 1:34 would be an excellent conical shooter but would only shoot roundballs with very low powder charges. Otherwise, the ball would jump the rifling and be less accurate. Traditional roundball rifles with slow (1:66, 1:72)...

    OK you underhammer experts.

Bruce at Blue Grouse swears by conicals. He has a lot of different molds and casts and sells them at $2 per pound plus shipping. He's got a .45 240 gr maxi-ball that he says will shoot in a twist a low as 1:72. He also sells minies, and will even sell you a "sampler" of conicals so that you...

    OK you underhammer experts.

That H&A underhammer should be a very reliable, accurate shooter. The barrel is a 1:66 twist-best with patched round balls. It will also shoot very short conicals. I'd recommend real black powder, probably Goex or Swiss FFFG. It will also shoot Pyrodex. Start with 50 grains and work upwards...

    TC Flintlock Advice Requested.

I took a picture of my lock to compare it with a picture posted in another thread. Based on the shape of the hammer, I think mine has the old style parts. I'll call TC and see if they will upgrade this for free under the warranty. If not, I'll order the parts and install them myself...

    Missfires or nofires

Went to the October Country Website and ordered some 3/4" Black English Flints. They recommended 5/8 for the TC's but I took your advise and ordered the 3/4. I measured my frizzen and it's just shy of 3/4, something like 23/32. Thanks for the tip. Jimbo

Not nearly enough. Right now I have a TC Renegade Flintlock and a TC O@$%&! (I) which I'm selling to pay for the underhammer I'm having built. I had a TC Scout, but sold it (wish I had it back). On my wish list are: A Brass Mowry A Parker-Hale Whitworth A Jim Chambers English Gentleman's...

    Renegade Flinter Disassembly

Roundball, :master: Sure appreciate the instructions. I removed everything down to the bare wood, including the tang and trigger assembly. As I suspected, things were pretty messy. I hadn't done this in the 5 years I've had the rifle. The friend who "lent" it to me said he hadn't done...

    Missfires or nofires

On the subject of TC agate flints. I have 6 of them, 5 unused. I will order some BEF's. In the meantime, when I lose spark on them, after turning the bevel in the other direction, should I: a. try to sharpen them or b. throw the dull one away and use a new on. If sharpening is the answer...

how flat does a 62 ca. RB shoot?

Besides, one of the things I like most about BP shooting is making lots of noise and smoke. These loads will certainly do that!

how flat does a 62 ca. RB shoot?

The question has been raised about why shoot 175 gr charges with a .62 roundball. The Zephyrs are modeled after the African big game rifles of the nineteenth century. Their slow-twist Forsyth rifling is meant to achieve maximum muzzle velocity from a PRB, resulting in a flatter trajectory and...

    Renegade Flinter Disassembly

I want to clean the lock and trigger mechanisms in my Renegade flinter. I have never done it before. Is there anything I need to know about how to get it back together? Is it a simple or complicated process? Is there a trick to getting the springs, sear, etc. lined up? Thx in advance. Jimbo

    Barrel break in

mrfishnhunt Here is a link to break-in information from Ernie Stallman of Badger Barrels. According to him, it's important to not let the barrel heat up during the break-in until the memory is set. Otherwise the barrel will "walk" as it heats up and the POA will change. Badger Barrels...

Got my round ball .75 bore Ed Rayl barrel today

    The Nock Volley Gun

The seven barrels is a function of Pi. When I was going to college, I tended bar summers at Ocean City NJ. Our happy hour special was seven 7-oz drafts for $1 (gives you an idea of how long ago that was). The 6 glasses fit exactly around the center one. You grabbed them with two hands and...

    TC Flintlock Advice Requested.

A friend of mine lent me this rifle about 5 years ago. I've killed 4 or 5 deer with it since then in PA muzzleloader seasons. It could be 20-30 years old. The serial no. is 83334. I've always called it a Renegade because it has no brass trim. The lock is case-hardened and the barrel and...

    Jimbo's Underhammer

This thread has shown some interest in Zephyrs. There's a guy in Pittsburgh who has one for sale. It was available as of Aug 17. If anybody is interested, PM me your email and I'll forward it to him. If I wasn't involved with this project, I'd jump on it. Jimbo

    Jimbo's Underhammer

Bruce and Fred, Still waiting on the barrel from Ed Rayl - he said it would be ready sometime in September. I saw a nice combination of colors at this website: Pacific Rifle Company They build their Zephyrs with a case-hardened receiver, blued hammer, trigger, and triggerguard, and a...
