    Pinning ramrod tip

Today, my flintlock ate my cleaning jag. It's an older (70's) TC Renegade with the original ramrod. I stuck the jag at the breech. A friend and I tried to yank it out with vise grips, but were afraid of breaking it. We jumped in the car and drove to Dunham's for a T-handle rod. The only one...

    loooooooooong range gun

Questions for Ranger? 1. Have you come across any ballistics tables for the Whitworth? 2. I've never seen one close up and would appreciate some info on the barrel i.e. shape (round or hex?) (straight or tapered?)(diameter, etc) ramrod thimbles (number, location?)From this picture, it looks...

    loooooooooong range gun

RussT, Navy Arms is a US distributor of Whitworth Rifles. I inquired about purchasing a barrel only and they referred me to EuroArms of America - [email protected] This is the reply I got: This is not an item we generally stock. The retail price is $469.05 plus shipping. We...

    Lyman Plains vs. T/C Hawkin

I'm fixing to trade my TC on a Lyman because I'm left-handed and want to get the flash pan away from my face - TC doesn't make lefties Jimbo

    flintlock shooting tips?

Thirty-some years ago one of my basic training Drill Instructors talked about imagining a figure 8 with the 8 lying on it's side, and the intersection of the lines on the desired point of impact. The shooter traced this figure eight with the sight, slowly decreasing the size of the pattern...

    historical question: most powerfull Percussiongun?

Interesting thread . . . It's been years since I read Michener. Do I remember correctly him saying the market hunters also used nuts, bolts, and roofing nails in the punt guns? Also, I just read Sir Baker's "Wild Beasts and Their Ways" and enjoyed it thoroughly. He talks about "Baby" and his...

    loooooooooong range gun

Would be possible to get a Whitworth barrel custom-made for an H&A underhammer? If so, would the cost be prohibitive? Any ideas on who might do that kind of work? Thanks, Jimbo

    Rate of Twist

I'm planning to build an underhammer and am trying to decide the caliber and twist. I would like something different because I already have 2 TC 50's, an Omega and a Hawken flinter. One of the possibilities is a .62 with 2 barrels, 1 rifled for conicals, 1 smooth for shot. I'm not afraid...

    100 cal.?

Bruce Lingenfelter of Blue Grouse Black Powder builds underhammers up to 4 bore. He had one on Auctionarms several weeks ago, but it must have sold. He builds them finished, "in the white", or as kits. His website is: www.underhammers.com I'll send him a link to this thread. Jimbo

    Underhammer hangfire problem

Okie, Here is a link to Powder Inc. http://www.powderinc.com/ They ship as little as 5 lbs, and you can mix types. You might want to forget about the Pyrodex and shoot the real stuff-it's much easier to ignite. I'd try Goex FF (instead of Pyrodex RS) or Goex FFF (instead of Pyrodex...

    Watcha Got?

I have 3 TC's, a Renegade Flinter, a Scout Carbine, and an Omega. I'm going to sell or trade the Omega and build an Underhammer something like this one: http://users.adelphia.net/~purplelady_15563/images/poorbambi.jpg with some modern amenities - stainless action and barrel - good scope, 1:48...

    Building an Underhammer

Red, The October season allows inlines and percussion with any kind of projectile .45 cal and above. The late Dec-Jan season is flintlock only. They changed the law about 2 years ago to allow all projectiles in this season as well. Here is a link to the PA Game commission website...

    Building an Underhammer

Hi, I'm new to the forum and own 3 TC's-an old flintlock Renegade, a Scout, and an Omega. I'm happy with the first two, the Omega is a pain. Aside from having no "soul", I'm tired of dealing with the new set of problems - hard Sabot seating, 209 "crud ring", etc. I'm thinking of...
